Heh. I'd have to vote for the 426, too.
My first brand new car, picked up on January 6, 1969, was a Seafoam Green 1969 Plymouth
Barracuda coupe with a 426.

I think the A/C on that thing had more displacement than the engine in my xB. :D

That's just a 426 on steroids, though, not a totally different branch of the evolutionary tree...
There was even a 519 variant.
(And then there were the old FireDome Hemi's - the 276, the 291, the 301 and the 330 from
the '50's - A neighbor had one of the 1953 DeSoto FireDome 276 Hemi's and that thing was
fierce for it's day! It would flat suck the headlights out that day's Fords and Chevy's
- heck
Chevy's biggest was still the 235 six!)

318's weren't that weak...with a cam, a 4b carb, and dual exhaust, my 72 dodge charger 318 would run a low 14 in the quarter. After the heads were ported, the headers were on, and better tires, it was doing low to mid 13's
In answer to the question....I'll take the 71 hemi cuda in the pic, painted Green-Go, with the 426 shaker....I guess the shaker part is unnecessary since all 70-71 426 cudas came stock with the shaker
If that one were unavailable, the 69 charger daytona in the background woudl suffice nicely. Lol, can you tell I'm a mopar nut????

with the 392 hemi those things were like a dime a doz. back in the day with drag racing!!! just pop on a super charger and you can get around 1200hp at 2300rpms i think with the stock bottom end
chrysler sure did know how to make hemis
btw cast iron block(around 500 lbs) and heads(75 pounds per head) heavy heavy heavy!!! and put together it was around 700 lbs all together
and my dad got 3 of those engines all in piece's sitting in the garage!!! two from a 300 and one from a new yorker and all 1957 blocks/cars too

Being that I own a Hemi Ram I like the 5.7 but the 6.1 would be even better. We had many 68-69 Chargers with 383 and 440's But with modern technology the 5.7 has more HP and better gas mileage and of course is more reliable. My husband wants a 6.1 Hemi in a 69 Charger R/T and I want it in a BOX!!
