Default New 2006 Civic More Powerful?

I'm looking into the new 2006 Civic and wondering if anyone had opinions to share about the i-VTEC engine? It is said to acheive more powerful performance as well as improved fuel economy. I work for Honda, so as I was browsing the site I was excited to see the redesign of the whole Civic lineup! The new styling and package (including xm radio/6 speakers -yay!!) really sparked my interest; I'm just not too savvy on engines and I could use some help finding out more about the performance of this car.

Also, if anyone could point me in the direction of some better pictures that would be great I'm currently at newcivic.honda.com and I'd like to see some more pics! Thanks

Even though the new Civic Si does have an improved 1.8l engine with a new system called i-VTECpro or something. The vehicle is also heavier. However, despite that I still heard it can go 0-60 in 6 seconds flat and can do really low 15s in the 1/4 mile.

Bad news is it is still using the Mcpherson strut setup for front and back, instead of opting for at least the rear to use double wishbone. And don't tell me its a price problem because Hyundai has rear based double wishbone setup on most of their lineup while the Kia Spectra5 even has it on both front and rear.

Also after reading a UK magazine on how Honda wants to outdo their previous Type R in Japan and Europe just gives me a sinking feeling that they are going to put a more powerful engine once more into their new Type R.

There goes there promise of bringing back the "old days" of engine equality, even though that period really didn't last that long.

so you work for honda and you're coming the competition to ask us what we think? but yet at the same time you're advertising your car.. thanks for the marketing

here's a couple things you could learn from scion.. they actually cared back in the day at the market segment that wanted what the CRX Si and Civic Si, USED to be! They listened and gave us things that we actually wanted, like sport seats again, sunroofs that were unique, 4 wheel disc (who actually wants drums? you've gotta be kidding me).. etc.. It's the little things that make the scion what it is.. And it's what Honda USED to be.. not anymore..

Your company got a bit too full of themselves and were more interested in shaving off costs and making more money than actually increasing sales with a car that satisfied the one person : the customer! You thought you would go after the so-called "mainstream market" yet that wasn't the market that was feeding the sales success that you were experiencing.. It was the market that went to scion!

When I had out of warranty problems with my CRX Si back in the day, a call to Honda corporate fixed it no problem, no cost to me and apologized to me for it breaking! When my 1996 Civic had problems I was told "what do you want, it's already at 100,000 miles.. you want it fixed, go sue the dealer".. nice attitude to give to the customer! This is not the only story out there about your company from previous customers. You might want to change the attitude of your company if you expect the people who put the Civic on top of the compact car market.

You want the respect of us? Try bringing back double wishbone suspension, that would show you actually care about the customer and not your corporate profit machine! Profits are important I do agree, but to the point in which you turn a car into a bean-counter's dream? I don't think so..

I nod in your direction that you're trying with the Civic si, but you have a ways to go before you return to the Honda of yesterday when the customer counted.. Mr. Honda would have had it that way, not all these greedy bean-counters.. You do that, and then you might have something better than Scion..

....
Civic Si has the K20Z3, which is 2.0 liters, 197hp. The civic dx, lx, and ex have the R18, which is 1.8 liters with 140hp.

The new civic does have struts in the front, BUT the rear is reactive-link double wishbones, not struts.

The suspension is supposedly highly refined, i'll wait to test drive the civic before I make a judgement of how well/poor it performs.

Cool, thanks for everyone's input. sciontc_mich, your message will be passed along. I think that every opinion matters - especially when the time has been taken to organise your thoughts...

I don't like the two tiered dashboard.

My brother has an xB and I can live with the offset gauge, but there is a reason 98% of cars have the gauge cluster in front of the driver...and have some set up using gauges. Remember late 80's digital dashboards.....

Honda is getting arrogant and lazy. They assume that people will buy whatever they sell because it has an "H" on it. While still better than the domestics their quality isn't what it once was and they are turning in to GM with their overzealous cost cutting - Honda's don't have double wishbones all around for the same reason GM's still have 4 speed automatic transmissions.
