Default Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky

For some reason these cars really seem to grab my interest. 170hp on a new, sport inspired chasis, and now that GM is putting out the GXP version (turbo, 260hp/260tq) the Solstice seems to be a bad mamojamma.

But what REALLY grabs my attention is this site that I happened to have found.

I had the Solstice on my short list, and my neighbor has a deposit on the Sky...will post pix when he gets it.
Nice cars, but I had to get something with a back-seat for now...

the solstice is actually a nice car, thought abt trading my box in for one of those, but..... since i park my car outside and the top wont last very long from the rain and shine, i decided to keep my box, and i had to remind myself that i can "steal" my bro's S2K since he doesn't drive it at all.....

My best friend is in line for one of the first Saturn Skys, but he won't even see it until Chuck Mallet is done with it, as he is putting in a LS2 V8 conversion and a whole host of other mods (see LimitedE's link above). Should be unique (although expensive: approx $45K) ride. I hate the soltice look as compared to the Sky, but I saw today some company came out with a really whipsmart front end kit that takes the Solstice way passed acceptable and firmly into the desireable range. Plus there is some 300P=HP Ecotech Turbo offering becoming available soon too... so it should be a pretty cool platform (aside from the American car stigma).

O man, they're nice. I saw a Solestise the other day and it seemed very nice. Saturn had a car show at my school last semster and they brought out a sky, and it was clean.

I guess Pontiac and Saturn wanted their own "Miatas" in the lineups.

haha.. same.. Stu- I challenge you to a dual! Ha ha, get it? Dual? Nevermind..

Both of those are really nice though, and definitely something unexpectedly nice-looking from GM. Awesome.

The Sky's interior actually looks much nicer.
I agree on the outside, but they're both nice for US cars.

Sweet Kit

The Solstice has cleaner, sportier, roadster feel.
The interior coincides with the exterior.
Minimal features for maximum fun.

Baby vette... ha.
The Sky looks like a chopshop special... a Vette Rice kit.

Why won't Pontiac give up on those cheap black front grille? From the side and back it looks classy, but the front just looks so... american...

i test drove the solstice yesterday. i wasn't impressed. the tC feels quicker and the thing that ticked me off , and i am not kidding here, i got "chuckles" from drivers around me as i test drove it. it is a sad state of affairs when a nice looking coupe gets laughs from fellow motorists because it is a buick, or pontiac, or whatever else this clusterf of a new coupe is. i only hope it wasn't because it kind of falls into that whole "mazda miata" perception, nudge nudge wink wink.

it's probably not that, but it more or less screams to me "i have no idea which car to buy but this one looks kinda cool".

i'm sure that's just me.

Surfcity40 dude, maybe they were laughing at YOU.

I dropped the tC for a Solstice for a few reasons...
2 seats (never used the excessive and useless .. to me.. space in the tC)
The tC was a great car to lay many many many miles onto.
I'm not commuting as many miles as I have been.... 40K a year is over.
It's pulled through the gears faster.
Convertible.
Ecotec HP potential is HUGE
Platform is excellent.
RWD is more like it.
and I grew bored of the tC... which I'm sure I will with the Solstice also. I buy a new car every year or two.
But, I will not knock the TC too hard, for it's a great car.
The tC or any Scion make for great first cars, commuters, style wagons, etc.

And someone seems to have faith in the platform and 550hp.

The Sky looks a bit too riced.. but that's what you like right? A whole lotta pointless chrome and faux vents. But then again, a cheap grill turns you off.

Redline SKY = Solstice GXP

To each their own.

^ The best Response on SL... ever.

Surf, you're alright!

After driving the tC for a year or so... 40K+ miles later... No problems whatsoever...
I cannot fault the tC in any way shape or form.

Maybe I can find problems with some of the owners tho!

the tC is the second car I recommend to anyone.
I have not had the Solstice long enough yet for more than offering some current perspective.
The platform has a lott of, obvious, potential.

Not bad vehicles, however, in South and Central Florida they are adding $10,000 stickers to the MSRP. 10G's over MSRP!!!
