After reading the posts... I find it ironic that he did it to accommodate his large family (time to buy a van, buddy) but I wonder how structurally sound it is now.

you should read the thread on the prius forums

he did it because he just was able to get two unsalvagable priuses for a cheap price and had alot of time to just spend for the build.

also.. the structure of the prius is very, very strong stock.. but in the build he did add further reinforcements.
