Default R.I.P. Celica MR2

I have just heard the news about how Toyota is no longer making the Celica or mr2 anymore, and the reason is to focus more on the scion lineup of cars. I think what Toyota should really do is bring back the beast of all Toyota cars the "SUPRA". With Mazda, making the rx8, Nissan making the Z again and Honda already with the s2000. Toyota needs to show what a real RWD car is all about again and they need to keep the price down around the same as a fully Equipped Z would cost. Nothing beats seeing a Toyota beat the snot out of a Ferrari and the supra is the only true hope.

I genuinely liked the 2004 MR2 Spyder- everything except for the powerplant and pricerange. If it were more reasonably priced I may well have bought one. The boxy headlights on the new generation were very attractive IMHO.

As for the straight-from-the-factory-rice loooking celica... I hope that vehicle boils in Hades. No Peace For You!!!!

As fot the Supra- I am a fan of good cars, from any make. A new Supra would be great, especially if it is affordable (25k msrp for base model???) "Build it and they will come."

The powerplant for the mr2 should of been the engine in the tC. It would of allowed for a lot mods for it and very good base to build on. They didn't put the 2zz in because the car would spin when it hit lift because it was rwd and light. I personally like the action package on the celica. good look for something from the factory. both cars were over priced. If they bring the supra back it will need to be a v6 with a v8 option and be in 26k range for the v6 and about 31 for the v8.

I would love a new supra to come out. Though stock, it and the old ones can't even compare to the new Ferrari's in acceleration. That, and , it's a Ferrari! I would take that any day over a Toyota if I had the choice.

I don't think he was talking about stock supras. If a modded honda civic can beat a 2003 dodge viper in a drag, anythings possible. Even more so with the last gen. supras.

I'm sure he didn't mean that but from the way it's worded it does sound like that. Granted, how much money, including the price of a new car, does it take to get a supra into the 10-11 second range without the use of nitrous.

I think the 2ZZ would've been a better powerplant than the 2AZ. The 2AZ would've made the car heavier and might affect the car's handling. And I doubt that's the case why Toyota didn't put the 2ZZ in the MR-S. The Lotus Elise has a 2ZZ and is actually lighter than the MR-S and there haven't been cases of people spinning out when they hit "Lift".

bringing back the supra is inevitable... it just matter of price.

i doubt the new supra will start at $25k. i think it will be more in the low $30k with possibly supercharged option going up to $40k.

And the earliest you will see the new supra will be early 2007 IMO.

There's been talk of a "supercar" supra...to compete with NSX and porsche...but knowing toyota... this will not be a profitable class. I think Toyota took notice of Nissan Z success ... and will try to compete at that level.

Time will tell...

Default What NSX?

I thought that the NSX was getting nixed, as well as the replacement model.

Read about several guys who have put 2ZZ's into MR2s. They say that hit'n lift makes the car pretty touchy, specially on corners. They said that once ya get used to the lift a 2ZZ MR2 works great but that ya have to be careful and learn the new limits of the car otherwise your off into the weeds. It's pretty obvious that Toyota didn't want to deal with all the law suits from your average car driver spin'n their new car off the road. I would think the average Elise owner is more of a driver than your average MR2 owner. Not to mention that I think the 2ZZ sits lower and farther forward in the Elise.

MR2 spyder is perfect the way it is, exclude'n the price. If it was 10 grad cheaper I would have got'n one. And I don't even like convertables.

I like my 04 Celica GTS. It's more car than it appears on paper. Lift is amaze'n. *grins*

That would be great if Toyota made the Volta- looks like a Japanese Lambo!

In my opinion, I think toyota would do well if they brought back the MKIV supra w/ the N/A and TT, but the sticker price would have to be way lower than it was back in 93-98. also, the Supra should not come w/ a V6 or an optional V8, just stick w/ the 2JZ I6 w/ the option of N/A or TT. :-) first post, dont hate on the celica's!!

2JZ is laid to rest.....deal with it. Its not coming back.....ever. It is a Legend, one of the best engines (IMHO) ever built, but the chances of it being used in a new production car are about the same as babe ruth coming back to play base ball
