Rednecks 24 hours of LeMons build
Yes, grass roots motorsports at its finest, Find a car for $500, put in a roll cage, racing seat, and 5 point harness then have fun. The 24 hour event (most are run from noon to dusk, but there is one real 24 hour race per season) and that just happens to be the event that I am entering...
for all the background/rules/regs/whatever you want @ www.24hoursoflemons.com
Step 1. Find vehicle
Prerequisites (atleast what I was looking for)
-Must run or require little work to get running
-Must have inexpensive parts, cuz your bound to break something
-Must be manual trans
-Rather fuel efficient, as we are paying for our own gas during events
so I looked everywhere, trolled CL for ages, and then finally came across this on sixthsphere...
A 1998 Saturn SC2 (yup, third Saturn Ive owned in as many years, but the first thats not a wagon!) 5Spd, 127K miles, blown head gasket... Interior is perfect and very sellable, which I know isnt a word but we will go with it.
After a trip to Advance Auto Parts, I had everything that I needed for the swap since it was draining the coolant into the combustion chambers and also fowled the plugs.
Also, Picked up a can of this stuff just because, I have no idea what Ill use it for, but I will use it for something

The best part is, I have a lot of friends in the Saturn community that have a bunch of parts laying around. So, not only do I get a bunch of freebies (intake, header, short shifter/new belts/more wheels/more lights have already arrived at my door) but there are also a lot of people that want the interior because it is all black, so it will go for a pretty penny!

This is pure win. I've been wanting to do the Le Mons race for a while with a group of friends, but none of us have the time/money to invest into it. And yes, there is a nice chunk of money involved in these races, it's a lot more than just getting a $500 car.
I can't believe you got that thing for $500...

I actually got it for $300... hehehehehe but yeah, by the time you factor in the roll cage, seats/belts, tires and brakes your looking at around $2000 just for the car, then a grand to enter ($500 per car, $100 per driver min of 4) and then around $400 for gas for the tow vehicle and car during race. it gets spendy
Yes sir
