RX-8.
Do you guys think the RX-8 would be a great car for it's price? I kinda like the looks of it, and the rotary engines also keep me interested in it. I've thought a lot about trading in my tC for it for the extra power, but right now I don't think it's something I could afford.
Just getting any thoughts/opinions from everyone else about this car.
the rx8 is a cool car. but since its a rotary it doesnt last as long as traditional engine. also, when it comes down to chainging the stereo, its going to be a butt because the stereo is literally integrated into the car (unless you do it remotely of course). also trunk room for subs will be hard (i tried stuffing my single 12" in there it didnt fit unless you do it custom fiberglass install. but other than those things.. the rx8 is indeed a really cool car. just make sure you get the 6sp cause it has more hp... but i would rather stick with the tC and spend the money you saved from buying an Rx8 and mod the tC
i've recently been lurking in a rx8 forum and i learned this
only way to get decent gain, if u plan on modding the car, is FI
seems like mazda is using pretty good stock parts for the car
so be ready to dump money into this
but the consensus is that its a fun car
and if you get a reflash you can rev up to 9300 which is always fun :D

from what i hear...
poor longevity
decent straightline
great handling (weight distribution)
and for me, looks are so-so (black is sick though)
for its price, there are better cars in its category (imo)

car and driver had a long-term rx8, they loved the sporty parts of the car, and according to some rotary lovers, rotary engines get better with age, which showed because the c&d rx8 put down faster acceleration times.
however, their 6 spd manual rx8 only got 19 mpg highway...so if your a tc guy who thinks he gets lousy mileage now...

The *real* pros and cons:
Pros-
Reasonably quick
Great interior
Fantastic handling
Seats four, and is sometimes considered a sedan instead of a sports car by certain insurance companies
Dealers are cutting pretty good deals on them, there are incentives currently I think
Engine does gets stronger over time, makes a little more power and fuel milages goes up a little
Revs to 9000rpm
Cons-
Gas milage is pretty terrible, often does not even match the EPA numbers
Consumes oil *by design*, not a problem but you have to check your oil frequently
Does not get good power gains from mods without f/i, which as mentioned above probably does significantly decrease engine life
Engine can flood if you don't leave it on long enough (i.e. don't start it up just to move it in the driveway)
For the money I'd say it's tied with the Z for the best sports car under $32K, if you don't want the rough ride/basic interior of an Evo/STI.

Wound up with a 300zx and now a WRX instead. but one day I will have one.
I love the looks of the RX-8 and almost bought one til I started doing m research and went and test drove one. The car is just SLOW (in my opinion of course). Dont get me wrong Id take it over the tC just because the RX-8 is RWD and 9300 rpms just sounds sexy, but like said before N/A mods just arent gettin people anyhwhere. And everytime i see one at the road course it seems to dissapoint which is strange cause ive always heard from owners they handle great but i guess street handling and behavior is much different from track handling and behavior (see viper vs. Z06). I have a friend who is was talkin about sellin his tC RS1.0 to get one so maybe ill get some some more first hand knowledge of them if he does. Oh and I love the way the motor just wants to keep going. It feels like a damn electric engine then you hear the little shift thingy and your like DAMN SO SOON!
Still a great car especially for the street just not my cup of tea.

Does this mean ALL RX-8s, until somewhere in the 2006 MY?
