A LOT of imformation can be found on MBCanada.com forums. (The smarts have been there for over a year now. They all have to sign agreements NOT to re-sell the cars to US customers...)
WHY?
Are they afraid of SUCCESS?? I just don't get it...
a México entonces

But really ZAP can't hold back DMZ forever, they are probobly using it as an excuse to bide their time and perhaps get some cash on part of ZAP's exclusiveness.

This would be like Motorex trying to convince Nissan to not import the new GT-R.

Btw, here is the Volvo C30 concept which the pruduction model will be most likely directly based on.

None of the smart cars are coming to the US. I read somewhere that ZAP actually purchases used smarts from aboard and tries to certifying them for the US market. As of now, DOT and EPA only approved the old engine (don't know which one) in the older smarts.

moreover, ZAP is a business venture and it is not directly selling its smarts to anyone. It is trying to form a dealer network to sell these smarts. As of now, I don't think ZAP has delivered any of the smart to its customer. However, its stock is doing good from all the exposures, ie MSNBC.

if you wanted to see the smart in action, go north. Canada MBZ is selling the smart right off the Mercedes showroom.

The website is designed for enthusiasts. There's a site that sells parts, as well. (I think they're in S. Carolina.)

The reason they put them on display at shows is to judge reaction from the crowd to guage interest... They're playing games with our heads, if you ask me.

Someday...maybe...(if they ever get their collective heads out of their @sses) smarts may hit our shores. If they do, I'll have one, or something like it. Hopefully, they'll have a sport coupe model. Until then, I won't be getting my hopes up.

In other words, I'll believe it when I see it.

At least they got their ears out.

With the Yaris, Fit as well as signs of the new Suzuki Swift coming to the US DMZ would be crazy not to start selling Smartcars here as well. It is not like Smart would have a large consumer base with just the Fortwo. Either that or really hope that the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass can really appeal to the sub-compact segment as well. DMZ can also consider importing more Daewoos.

it was at the detroit show a few years ago too. it is for gauging public reaction. a few years ago, they were going to build a new formore (kind of like a mini suv) but that has gone bust.

i am hoping they will bring them over after a redesign but who knows

I hope they get here by 2008, that's when I plan on purchasing a new car.

They use smartcars in show's here because they want to see how people react, and see if the company feels sales could be worth bringing over.

Bring them over??
They're already in Canada AND Mexico...What do you mean?? They're every where EXCEPT here...

Don't get me started...Chrysler also showed a Dodge Slingshot at a show, last year I think. It's basically a Smart Roadster. Under 2000 lbs with a 3 cylinder turbo.

I'll take one!!
