Thinking about trading for an 06 GTO
I traded in my 04 GTO to get a Scion(like I had orignally wanted; long story)
They're not worth the money, IMO. The car is all power. The interior lacked. The only three controls you had(othe than the HVAC and stereo) were two window buttons and the traction control button. There are no lock buttons other than the ones on the huge key you'll get.
Also, I had to have my clutch slave cylinder replaced twice and I didn't even beat on the car.
And depending on where you live and if you plan on driving it under snowy conditions you will NEED snow tires.
Don't get me wrong. I loved the car for what it was. It was a lot of fun in the summer. And I still miss the power, 6-speed tranny, the awesome clutch and RWD.
So basically, if you live somewhere where it doesnt snow and you don't mind a somewhat bland interior(the seats were great) go for it. But plan on spendind double for after market parts. Last I checked a Corsa exhaust was running upwards up $700. But it is twice as much piping than a tC.
And you if you do get one, opt for the Sports Appearance Package. It's a really nice kit, IMO.
If you have any other questions about the goat feel free to PM me.

Do it. I did, though I still have my xB. The interior is the best GM has(probably because it wasn't built by them). Better than Scions. The car is fun to drive and handles very well do to the independent rear suspension. Check out www.ls1gto.com for more info. You can pick up a very low mileage 05 for $25k right now.
Yeah, they are cool cars. This is the last year for them because they are not selling as well as expected. I still don't get the post about gas prices from Blackonblacktc. The GTO is rated at 17/25 mpg for the manual. The manual tc is listed at 22/29 mpg. What did you mean?

Also the 6 speed gets 17 city and 21 hwy for MPG. Real world driving is more an average of 20MPG.
Sorry need to correct you some. They are not being discontinued do to low sales. When they first released it they even said it would only be for a three year run. The reason being is the model is ~7 years old and after 06 they will no longer me US standards set by the NHTSA. Also since the model has been around for ~7 years they will be retooling the factory for the new Monaro where they are built. They have already stopped building the Monaros and the last GTO will roll off in the next couple of months.

Modern GTO Disappoints
Go figure. Even the storied muscle car name of "Pontiac GTO" can't draw lots of Americans to a sizable, rear-wheel-drive V8-powered coupe.
Indeed, the best year for the modern reincarnation of the GTO was in calendar 2004, but with only 13,569 GTO sales in the U.S. The modern GTO is actually a U.S. version of the Holden Monaro coupe made in an Australian factory by Pontiac's parent company, General Motors Corp. The GTO never hit the company's 18,000 annual U.S. sales target.
With no sign that the U.S. coupe market would revive, and with GTO sales going downhill, as well as new federal regulations kicking in that would add costs to the car, GM cancelled the GTO after three model years. The last cars likely will be found through summer on dealer lots.
In addition, I got my mpg numbers from the EPA site. (http://www.epa.gov/emissweb/E-PONTIAC-GTO-06.htm)
Just wanted to supply a source for my data.[/quote]
I'm very sad to see it go. This was a very underappreciated car in the US. Admittedly it looks rather bland (especially without the hood scoops). That being said, the car was a GREAT deal for the money, especially for anyone that likes American muscle (Though I don't). With rebates and incentives, you could actually get a GTO for only slightly more than a optioned out Mustang GT last year. And you'd enjoy an extra 100hp.
As for whether you should do it, it really depends what you're looking for. If you a big fan of American muscle, I can't really recommend anything better. The GTO is basically a C6 Vette with 4 seats. If you're considering other options, I think cars like the STI, Evo, Legacy GT, Mazdaspeed6, 350Z, G35, IS350, A4 Quattro, 330-series, etc. are all better cars overall.
