the only suit I will wear is a rain suit,
b/c I don't care what anyone says,
I will never wear full leathers when I get my bike. I will wear pants(no shorts, don't own any) and a T-shirt. maybe a leather vest, and some boots. When it gets cold, I will put on my leather jacket and some gloves.
and I will prob be wearing a non DOT approved helmet. IF I have a helmet on at all(only when law says I have to) .
call me dumb, stupid, asking for a death wish(maybe I am) but its just not going to happen. If I die in a crash so be it. It was meant to be.
puts on flame suit.

no pain, no gain. skin grafts? who cares.
I don't own a Harley and may never, but I will have a large cruiser/chopper.
if the wreck is bad enough to kill me, leathers and or a helmet will not do much good, other then keeping my face pretty for the funeral. I have seen bike wrecks that the rider was decapitated, what good does leathers and a helmet do in a time like that?
so I guess since you are hating on Harley's you must ride the crotch rocket rice burners? the same guys that act stupid and ride super fast and try and do stunts.,

Hey, I won't flame you. I don't care what you ride.... If it's got two wheels, I'll consider you my brother. I ride a Katana which is the bastard of all bikes, neither tourer nor sport nor standard.
I won't flame you for your hear either. Riding a bike is pretty stupid in itself, so who am I to judge? Thr main thing is that I've had close friends get badly injured and I don't wish that kind of pain upon anyone.
Ride on and keep the shiny side up.

yes i am the "sportbike" crowd, but probably not the one you're thinking of. why is it always the same with harley/cruiser riders? calling a bike that out performs theirs in every single way a "crotch rocket rice burner"? no offense, harley davidson's are so outdated it's ridiculous that people keep paying so much money for them. but i do know why... harleys are about the image, trying to look hardcore, trying to look tough. "feel the wind in my face" kind of special people. that's why the "cool" thing is no helmet, no gear, and having the exact attitude that you just stated about riding. pure stupidity.
i cant stand harley riders who ride like idiots/wear little to no gear on the streets, i cant stand sportbike riders who ride like idiots/wear little to no gear on the streets. both groups share equal stupidity. just the latter group do it faster. gothbox summed it up well. this is why i pretty much only ride on the track anymore. so that there's no hint or doubt that i fall under either category. the track is where it's at. there's no having to deal with harley/cruiser riders that just plain suck at riding and think they own the road, and all the sportbike guys that are into the mainstream "im a stunter" crowd and screw everyone else on the road don't have enough gear or know-how to show up.
it's like an earthly heaven for people that can really ride a motorcycle and actually do it well.
I'll get a little off topic for one post, too, I guess.
I'm not a biker - it is just not something that has ever really appealed to me, no reason other than that.
As to the folks who are, there are those who are responsible and those who are not. Sadly, for those who are not, and do not protect themselves with the readily available tools (brain buckets and other protective riding gear), the rest of us, the responsible public, often end up paying for a good portion of their medical care, their rehabilitation, and their disability after they injure themselves unnecessarily. That is what really annoys me about the irresponsible riders: That they expect everyone else to pick up the pieces and pay for their folly.
OK, back on topic, guys! Joanie and Jeff, and supporting the two of them through this because we WANT to. :D

I agree Tomas. If you want to be dumb and ride stupid. Others should never have to pay for your poor choices and mistakes. If you can't pay you shouldn't be allowed to play.

ok, this is the last I will talk about this in this thread.
will "riding gear" prevent me from getting a broken leg? nope.
will "riding gear" prevent me from getting a broken arm? nope.
will "riding gear" and helmet prevent me from a broken neck? nope.
will "riding gear" prevent me form getting some road rash? maybe.(at low speeds)
as I stated once before in this thread, I DO NOT OWN A HARLEY, AND MAY NOT EVER.
I agree that they have become overpriced. one reason that I am not going to own one. I WILL have a large cruiser/chopper.
On severe crashes, the odds are one would die from it, SO... like I sad whats the point?
in low speed crashes, you can still get broken bones etc that "ridding rear" WILL NOT prevent. So you may hurt, so what? take some pills, you may even need a skin graft, so what? got to love the modern medicine.
lets not even start with having insurance go up etc, we all pay crap tons of money in taxes for stuff that is not for us, or we will never benefit. Welfare, food stamps, WIC, etc....
Yes I know there are two diff crowds in the "sport bike" world, just as there are two diff crowds in the "cruiser" world.
how can one compare a sport bike to "out perform the Harley's in every way"? that is not what the bike was designed to do. That is like saying "my supra is better in every way then your Scion xB" thats not what the xB was designed to do. Yes the sport bikes are faster, and handle better on the track, thats what they are made to do, "cruisers" were made to do just that CRUISE.
how can one say that cruisers are too loud? I have never heard a quite sport bike, other then a brand new one. "Loud pipes saves lives"
no matter what group you are a part of, bike, cars, trucks, boats, planes, or tractors you will have a group that is "stupid".
for how I will be ridding and what I will be ridding, it is pointless to have all the "riding gear" on. I said I would wear a helmet when law required it, and it will not be a full face one.
oh yea I don't wear a seatbelt either. its a 50/50 toss up of if it will save you or hurt you, I will take my chances, on everything.
I am done with this in this topic, If you have something you would like to talk to me about with this issues, PM me.

im just astonished. i've never seen such blatant ignorance to this issue before. i mean yea you get the guy that says im not going to wear a helmet because im so tough i don't need one blah blah blah... you are the first one to actually proclaim that wearing gear will not do anything for you except possibly prevent road rash under "low speed" conditions. i just hope you never mentor anyone about riding or motorcycles... any of it.
you are so completely wrong about everything you just said, i don't even know where to begin. im not sending you a PM because this type of conversation needs to always be open to the public so hopefully, HOPEFULLY, other people will be smarter and able to learn from it.
will "riding gear" prevent me from getting a broken leg? nope.
yes it can. when your legs are wrapped in a quality leather pant designed for sliding across the pavement, that is exactly what it will do. materials that are not made for this can get snagged and exert extra pressure on your legs in a get-off.
will "riding gear" prevent me from getting a broken arm? nope.
same principle applies. what also applies is the padding from the forearm to lower tricep that will absorb much of a possible impact preventing the stress from being applied directly to your bones.
will "riding gear" and helmet prevent me from a broken neck? nope.
are you kidding? your helmet... well maybe not yours but a full-face one like mine (that actually provides protection) does not allow as much movement of your head and neck. picture getting whiplashed with no helmet or crappy half helmet, then a full helmet which runs down along the side and back of your neck... i think it's obvious who will fair better here.
will "riding gear" prevent me form getting some road rash? maybe.(at low speeds)
you obviously just have completely no idea what you are talking about. this is the main reason for a leather 1 piece or 2 piece suit. im gonna hope most other people are reading this are smart enough to just know that.
since you are more a part of the harley/cruiser community, i can see why you have no knowledge on this subject because obviously, you cannot wear a 1 piece or 2 piece leather suit on a harley/cruiser... why? because it's not "cool". right? which is the whole point of harleys and the main reason i dislike them. To "fit in", you have to ride like a moron every time you throw your leg over the bike. brain buckets, half gloves, t shirts, etc... always the same dumb arguments too... "its not practical to wear gear, it's too hot for that." i want to punch myself everytime i hear someone say crap like that.
i just hope everyone of them will crash more sooner than later and suffer minor injuries enough that scare them to gear up and start actually paying attention to what they are doing. this way, when that day comes that they do have a big get-off... they end up only bruised and sore instead of dead. I'm tired of watching families lose their loved ones because mr. cool just had to go for a ride in his ___ harley attire because it's "so hot out" and now his kids do not have a daddy anymore. or if they do he is now permanently disfigured. i can go on for days about stupid people on motorcycles... there are just so many of them out there. it's sad.

Although not eloquently put, he is right. Thr biggest single cause of death in motorcycle accidents is head trauma. A full face helmet reduces the odds of death by a significant amount, taken straight out of the MSF handbook and safety course.
The biggest cause of broken bones is the impact with asphalt, and well designed CE armor will absorb the majority of the impact.
Neck injuries make up a minor part of accident injuries, and a full face does help in that event. There are also specially designed neck protectors.
I've witnessed friends go down at over 100MPH (wearing full gear) and walk away with minor injuries, and you can witness many similar events on youtube.

Kudos to posting about how leet and hardcore you are by not wearing any protective equipment at all when you ride... in a thread about someone's motorcycle injuries because they weren't wearing full protective equiptment. That takes some serious moronitude.

After all I've been though, I'm glad I made the choice I made, but please don't leap to conclusions about where the higher costs are and about other's choices of what degree of protections they choose . . . .
Sorry 'bout that, best I could do under the circumstances.
