Default 2 street race or not 2 street race?

I know alot of people on here including me are not for street racing but I caught myself racing not to long ago. i guess i got caught up in the moment. Im the type of person who could have someone pull up and rev their engine and not think anything of it. but when someone is so persistent and is verbally abusing me to race. my cuban instincts kicked in and decided talk crap back to the guy and go with it. I raced the car ( rx-8 ) three times the last time I raced him i saw a cop facing me making a left turn, my right, about two streets down. I know he saw us so i made a left even though I had to go the same way as the cop. I went around and to my surprise the cop was right next to me at the light me. He must have turned around too. I thought he had seen me race but I guess he didn't notice.

i know this is not a good reason to street race but know that i caved in to it i cant tell anyone not too with out being a hypocrite. people should just let other people be. if people like to street race someone constantly telling them will not change that but it sucks that it might take an experience like being involved, witnessing, or losing a friend in a bad accident to change that.

Drag strips have many programs to get you off the street. Similarly, organizations like NASA allow you to drive your own car on a road course in a controlled environment. See www.nasaproracing.com.

street racing is lame...i think. you're putting people in harms way, and what is street racing going to prove? that you're faster? everyone can street race...there is no skills involved, and the winner is usually the person who puts the most money in their car. i don't like drag strips either, but its a lot safer. you can touge, but do it by yourself just in case things go wrong lol. or you can spend money and go on the tracks... i can't tell you what to do. if you want to street race go for it.

it's easy to tell him to Touge from SF, you can drive Skyline just outside of Pacifica, Or just through the city for that matter, he lives in Miami, not a whole lot of hills there.

He states that street racing is lame, and he feels bad that he did it, but now that he has, he can't talk siht on ppl for doing it 'cause he has.

I bet almost every one on SL has at some point ran on the road. The trick is too learn before it's too late. I was able to learn from a "near" incident. After piloting my friend's v8 pinto to a victory over 2 cars ( yep--racing 3 wide on a city street is wayyyyy stupid ); we pulled over to cool down. Closed the hood, and out we went again. Pulled along side a big block mopar ( I'm thinking NOW we have a real race ), and just before the light turns green we notice a cop on the side street. So we pull away slowly, and as I drive by the crowd the hood flies up....... my friend forgot to pin the hood ( did i forget to note that I recently had shoulder surgery and my left arm was in a sling? how smart was that?) and were real lucky all it did was bust up the hood scoop from flying up into the windshield. If we would have been running hard, that hood would have torn off and become a frisbee into the crowd ( back then cruising was legal and crowds were there)...
Though we laughed at first, it did set in how lucky we were.... and that time 20+ years ago was the last night I raced on a street.
But that doesn't mean I don't like to "play" once in awhile, after all we don't mod our cars for better fuel economy.
My long winded point, without preaching: just be safe out there, if not for yourself, then for the others near by.
