Default Cooling Additive Comparison...Good Reading from Turbo Mag

Turbo Magazine did some decent testing on some of the Cooling Additives out there for radiators. Here's just another reason why DEI's radiator relief is the way to go.

I use DEI/water in the spring/summer months and on the race-track in the bike and water wetter/antifreeze mix in the winter, and I do ride my bike in the winter whenever there isn't snow on the ground.

my temps in the TC haven't been a problem so I haven't bled the cooling system, but I will when it's due and run a water wetter 70/30 mix.

That's interesting since the editors recommended the DEI brand over Water Wetter. It even out-performed Water Wetter though Radiator Relief was tested in hotter weather.

Also, after reviewing the manufacturer website of each product (I was bored) the DEI brand is the only one that has an anti-foaming agent which is Radiator Releifs "claim to fame" as bubbles and foam would hinder the performance of heat transfer via resistance in the mixture.

That makes sense, er...I think? Hah.

actually from what I was reading they do recommend DEI over water wetter, but that is in a pure water mix, and unfortunately we get snow on the ground for 6 months out of the year here instead of 5 (now anyways, we got snow in april a few times )

so my reasoning is that water wetter is the best all-around additive to be used when mixed with antifreeze, and DEI when on water and on the track, if the temps will be below freezing though I'm forced to use an agent with the water so I don't start cracking things when I want to ride my bike in the winter when there's no snow on the ground

I think that's why DEI created "Heater Hotter"...hah.

DEI was at the Cleveland IX center this past weekend at the Hot Rod Power Tour - when I was in their tent the Radiator Relief was being bought up by all the long hauler guys - I was there for like 15 min and they sold like 3 cases.

I also talked to their sales guy and he said that for the best results you should run a 70/30 or 80/20 water/antifreeze mixture for the best results.

He said that the redline stuff was an alcohol based product and even thought it initially would drop engine temps that it would inevitably evaporate, increasing temps due to the alc base.

thanks to BennyB on car domain for getting me this video file illustrating the difference in the "foam factor" of DEI Radiator Relief compared to Water Wetter - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCeXwAA95oY
