Motorsport Winter Season '09
As it's the off-season for everyone except rally drivers, I'm curious to know what everyone's doing next season.
I'm taking the tC down from ST to HS in auto-x. I'm shedding all the ST parts, getting myself a K&N filter, finally throwing on the Tokico shocks and front sway bar (and maybe selling my H&R springs for some replacement stock ones), putting on Porterfield pads and replacing the rotors, and the biggie... Hoosier A6's on another set of cheap-but-light XXR 006's. That last bit? $1,787.41.
The 240, whenever I finish it's KA -> KA swap (new engine is sans 100,000mi), is going to be prepped for ITR club racing. It's in the process of being stripped now, and a full cage and seats are going in when that's done.
I'd love to take the tC out to some HPDE's on those A6's, but they're too goddamn expensive for that.
The 240 is gonna be the designated track car from now on.

I'll be installing some ChargeSpeed seats in a couple weeks and I'm toying with the idea of picking up a used supercharger over the winter to use for next season and see how I do with more power. Other than that it's going to be a sad sad winter of nothing nothing nothing.
I'm already waayy out-classed to be competitive for auto-x so the SC can't hurt me any more than the 8.5 wide wheels already did. I'll still be staring at the back sides of Evos and STis.

I'm trying to convince my local tire shop to sponsor me in exchange for getting a break on those Hoosiers. "Give me a set of Hoosier's, and I'll give you my rear quarter panels and visibility at every regional and divisional race in the midwest." If I can somehow swing that, I'll be able to run all the national races, too... which is a total experience, if anyone's ever been to one.
My issue with taking it to the track is that I can't walk away from it if I stuff it into a wall. I could walk away from the 240, but losing the tC would be totally crippling.
Plus, as it stands now, the tC can hit 110 at Gateway. Not the most settling feeling going that fast without having a cage.
Those 8.5" wheels put you into what, STU? Yeaaah...

Yea the wheels were great for the track, but miserable for classing in auto-x. Luckily I mostly play with cones when I'm keeping sharp for the big course anyway. If I cared more about points/being competitive within a class I'd go back to ST or HS like you and Ack. My guess is you guys would murder me if we were all in the same class though.
And I know exactly what you guys are talking about the high speeds. At VIR the other weekend I got more and more nervous every time I hit the kink on the front straight. I never wanted downforce more
I guess that just reiterates that my "winter work" is going to be shopping eBay motors and Craigslist for a track ****.
Are you running 275 tires?
