Check this out, the vr6 is a 6 cylinder, the rsx and tc are both four cylinders, for a tc or rsx to even touch the vr6 speed wise says alot on its on, to me the vr6 is slow stock wise, after some mods is another story though!

yea, modding a vr6 is kinda silly. throw a turbo on one of those and a shrick valve cover and youve got 530whp potential. and dont tell me its not possible, there is a Golf Rallye in NH, i believe its an 86, and its like a forest green color, but its got over 500whp, i believe it was 546whp, but im not 100% on that. I saw it last year at Waterfest in NJ

Do you mean shrick camshafts? I don't really think a valve cover is going to help very much.

The shrick 264 camshafts are $900-$1,100 and the gain is about 10-12whp. I don't think that's good at all.

I'm sure there were SEVERAL other things done to the car also.. Most likely adding up to $8k-$12k to get that type of power.. And it's even more if you want to be able to actually put that power down to the ground, not just have a dyno queen.

VR6 parts are ALOT of money, I haven't really found anything cheap for it.

VR6's are actually _____ES to mod, and while they make reasonable gains (better than many 4cylinders), they can't touch the HP per dollar of the 1.8T.

I had a 12v with a bunch of mods, and i think it's nuts that an I/H/E tC will dyno the same HP as a stock 12v VR. Granted, it's only got .4L of displacement more than my motor.

With a 1.8T... any old joe can buy a chip, N75, and a few turbo goodies and easily push 220-240whp. To do that with an N/A VR6 is extremely difficult... and to turbocharge any N/A motor takes a level of know-how, money, and attention far outside of the vast majority of modders. Combine that with the fact that no VR6 part is cheap, and there's no reason for how expensive it is.

For example, a VR6 MAF-sensor goes out. Replacement at VW- $300. If you're smart and resourceful, you notice that it's the same exact part as the MAF for a 2.0L, which will run you a cool $40. I ran a 2.0L MAF for nearly 2 years with no problems whatsoever.

Yes, there are some high-power VR's out there, but really, it's just an average V6 when it comes to boost. Compare the output of a VR6-T with say, a boosted mazda KLZE, a boosted toyota 1MZ (very impressive), or even a boosted hyundai V6 from the tiburon. This isn't knocking the motor, but I came to a number of reality checks when I owned one.

But hey... it sounds good.. and its an extremely unique layout. I just think it's only worth a damn when it's got 3.2L.
