your official reminder video.. why street tires suck..
heh. im wondering, since i am interesting in doing a track day or autoX event, is it almost necessary to invest in race tires ? or is it just totally up to you and your commitment ? nice run by the way, looked clean.
I really don't understand how can you figure out that track pattern, I don't know when I have to go right or left when there is one cone only at front... really...
when i came thru the finish i slowed down.. that "stop" early in the run was a spin. Race tires aren't required, but they are certainly addictive.. once you race on real rubber it is very painful to go back to regular tires.
as far as the track pattern goes... it takes practice. i've been racing for over 2 years now and i still get lost sometimes

The track route wasn't to bad, if you know what the different cones mean: There are pointer cones and series of cones to guide your way. You also learn the course by walking the line a few times before you drive it.
As for blaming that on street tires: That was over-driving if I've ever seen it. You got behind, you over corrected then you got sideways. I see you jerking the wheel going into slaloms rather than pushing and pulling the wheel. Smoothness matters most.
I've only raced in six events (in 2004) on R-compounds and I've never spun while on street tires (and I've done well in stock classes which allow R compounds).
Don't blame the tires on that one.

another issue i was having that day was an unproven suspension setup. i've made my own camber shims for the rear of the car, and had not yet tested them on the track. i've since adjusted the shimstock and will be running a little less camber and less toe-in in the rear to help with rotation of the car. as it sat, my rear camber was about .5deg more than my front.. not a good deal on an already understeer-happy car.. i'm running no toe and 2.5deg neg camber in the front now and around -2deg in the rear with about 1/8" toe in.. the problem with a trailing arm axle is that toe changes during compression of the suspension. so if you add camber to your car, as the car sits static, when you compress your rear axle, some of that camber is lost to toe in.. good for straight line stability, but that's not at all where the suspension is getting compressed. .
i blame the street tires for my horrible driving haha.. please..
FYI they're Dunlop Direzza DZ101's.. i won't be buying them again anytime soon.

Good luck proving out your shims!
