Default Dealer dropped the ball

Ok, here's my rant:
Before I bought my tC, I checked with all the dealers in my area and was told the same thing that I'm sure we were all told: up to a 3 month wait to get the color i wanted (super white). I didn't want to wait that long, especially since my '97 Eclipse was almost falling apart at the seams. So I expanded my search and finally found a dealer about 60 miles from my house that had what i wanted. I made the trip out there and was told that the car is in port and should be there within a few days. I put a deposit down and told him all the options that i wanted on the car. One of the options that i asked for was the auto-dimming mirror.
Well finally the day came and i made the trip again to go pick up my baby. I pulled up and saw her parked right up front waiting for me looking all beautiful. I couldn't wait to get in and drive away. But after all the paperwork was signed and I got in, i noticed that the auto-dimming mirror was missing! "No problem" he says, "we'll have it put in when you come back to get your Lo-Jack installed."
Well the installation dept called me a few days later about my lo-jack but didn't say anything about the mirror. So i brought it up. She says there's nothing in her service order about a mirror, talk to my salesman. When I finally got in contact with him he says "not only did i forget to install it, i forgot to charge you for it. that'll be $310." (not his exact words, but thats the gist)

I know it isn't the end of the world but i really wasn't looking to drop 3 bills on a mirror at one clip, i wanted to finance it with the car.

Tell you what, i think i'll have the dealer near my house install it... why give the money to the dealer who already dropped the ball once?

Moral of the story: make sure you inspect the car carefully before you sign anything. I know i should have known that but hey, lesson learned.

How long has it been since you signed the paper work? If its only been a day or two you should be able to resign with the mirror added. Also if you have side air bags you can't have the auto dimming mirror. So that could have been the problem.

And I always reccomend looking a vehicle over before you go to finance, just to make sure we didn't forget something

I actually left that part of the story off because i thought it was too long but yes, that's the story he gave me. Problem is, i don't have side airbags. I could even understand if that were the case but why didn't he mention that part to me when i ordered the mirror or when he decided to leave it off when he thought i did have the side airbags. At that point i would have reminded him that he is mistaken.

As i said before, it was my fault for not noticing it (also it was 2 degrees outside and i didn't really take my time) and i take partial blame but it just goes to show you how one little thing can color your overall buying experience. It can be the difference between great and not so great service. I know i'm not buying a $50,000 BMW or something but with all the options i ordered the car came to well over $20,000 and for some of us that's a lot of money. So the least he could have done was keep me in the loop when he decided to simply remove an option from my order without informing me.

ps.
i got my lo-jack installed today and their service department is run like a well oiled machine. they were great from the second i pulled up till the second i pulled away. too bad i'll never be back again.
