Default My experience at the dealer.

Ok, these guys exist to make money. Do not be fooled by the $16,465 "no hassle" price. They will try to make money off of you through a trade-in, financing, and any other fees that they can think of.

I thought that I was careful, but I still overlooked one thing. They changed the price on me! They put down $16,495 instead of $16,465! $30 goes to the dealer. I knew about this and had a chance to change my contract later, but I let them have it. What the hell...

One other thing. A misc. fee that should be included within the $515 destination & handling fee. They called it a documentation fee and wanted to charge me $299.95. We didn't see much value in that price for us besides the full tank of gas and the inspection sticker, so we haggled until we got it down to $100.

I could have gone to a different dealer to get an even better price, but that takes time. Time is money to me, so all in all, $130 more than usual isn't bad. Oh yeah, especially since I took advantage of that $400 cash back because I was a recent college grad.

So... $16,495 + $100 - $400 = $16,195 This is the true price that I paid for a 5 spd. Black Sand Pearl Scion tC.

Oh yeah, I went through several credit unions and the best APR was provided by Toyota. 4.45% for 48 months. Better than the 4.69% I was quoted by one credit union and much better than the 5.25% I would have had through my bank.

Hmm... What else do I have to say? Oh yeah, the color. I wasn't sure if Flint Mica was the lighter shade of black, or if Black Sand Pearl was? The guy showing us the car didn't want to tell us since he only had the Black Sand Pearl on his lot. hehe... Trickster. I liked that color anyway though. I remember seeing the lighter one (Flint Mica) on the highway and I think I like this shade better.

Who cares though, it's not for me. It's for my wife. It's a Christmas present. :D

I think the dealers can charge whatever they want for the doc fee (or maybe it's a state regulated thing)...mine was only $25 in NY.

$300 for document fee is high. I paid $180 for mine, and found some places for less than $150. The part about this that sucks is the limited supply of tC's. Its not as easy to say "screw it, im going to another dealer".

Oh and the no haggle thing comes in kinda handy. Because my dealer gave me a 4.55% rate when my credit score is 743. I was expecting a rate of 4.50%, but i didnt bother arguing that little tiny bit. But when they submitted my package to scion. It got rejected. The dealer ended up calling me back telling me i have to resign a contract for a lower rate of 4.45%. HAHA. Stupid shady dealers!

When I went to the dealer I was given a price a bit higher than what I had priced online. This was due to the fact that the Destination and Handling fee went up by about $30 around October 8th. You can check it out on Scion's website. As for documentation fee, my dealer charges $90. A doc fee of over $100 in this area would loose a lot of sales. Its a shame when all the dealers in a certain area have such a high doc fee that it won't hurt their sales.

Man, I feel ripped off, I pre-ordered one for my brother the other day. But when I go abck, IM going to lok into, what do I say? There was a doc fee, and a dealer fee, like... $900 or so together!

PM us for anythign you want for any Scion, we now have CF hoods, cf/chrome/paintable Exterior B Pillars, custom spoilers, cf/vinyl/paintable eyelids, for all cars, plus much muhc more. Thanks!

Yeah the doc's fee's are crazy high in Florida. What sucks is there is nothing much to do about it either because the demand for the car is insanely high

Doc fees can get harry- here's why:

Sometimes they are legitimate fees and sometimes they are not. They are almost ALWAYS padded by the dealer, no matter the state. If they are legitimate, they only include expenses like registration, tags, title, and other state fees. Determine the fees your state charges before you go shopping. Call the Department of Motor Vehicles to determine the cost of registering a new car, and getting the tags if necessary. It may be cheaper to transfer the tag from your old car to the new one. Once you know all documentation fees, determine if the dealer is padding the charge. Have the salesman give a breakdown of every fee in writing.

I walked away from a tC because the dealer insisted on charging a $150 documentation fee when the total paperwork cost was only $45. He said "are you really going to walk away over 100 bucks?" I said "are you really going to LET me walk away over a 100 bucks?" I called another dealer the next day, asked them how much their doc fee was and they said "$45." I ordered my tC from them the next day. They were MORE than willing to give me a total breakdown of all costs. You have to work to find a dealer that is open about this stuff. If they don't include everything in their out-the-door price, go somewhere else.

Remember- you are a BUYING A $16,000 CAR!!! So what if they are in demand? They still want to sell a car that day, so don't let anyone bully you into paying more money than you should. There are a lot of honest salesmen out there who have every right to make a little money and make a living- it's the shady types that force us to expect the worst...

Oh by the way, the next day the first scion salesman called me back to talk about re-working the doc fees. He was UBER-shocked when I told him that I had bought one from his competitor. It pays to do your homework folks- trust me. I may be preaching to the choir here (since most of us recently bought a scion) but pass this stuff along to friends who are shopping. I got almost 1,300 this is a financing fee... I finance through TFS... anyone who finance through them get charge 1,300 for that?

My car was barebone... no floor mats nothing. Auto... so 17,xxx something...

with the finance charge and tax I was up another 2,500 grand already...

My guess is you're reading that off the "finance charge" box on the TFS form. That's not an extra fee, that's the total amount of interest you'll be paying.

Illinois is one of the few states that regulates Doc. Fees, its $53.52 here, which covers the cost of processing all your paperwork with the state. Differant states may may have differant processing costs, but I can't imagine that they'd be that much higher than here. In states without Doc. Fee regulation, dealers can charge what ever they want, I've heard of Doc Fees around $1,000, and some dealers charge a "dealer fee" on top of that. I doubt that the extra $ goes towards the commisionable gross though, so the salesman will never see any of it, it prob. just goes right to the dealership.

Cheapest local doc fee was $275. Most dealers around here wanted $350-400.

I've got tons of calls on my car, but people don't realize how good of a deal it is, because they haven't gone to a dealer and priced one out. They think they can be out the door with a new one for $16400, but don't realize that after tax, fees, add ons and all that its a $19000+ car.

most states now adays the doc fee is regulated meaning all customers a that particular dealer must pay the same doc fee. I'm a scion sales person and the guys that negoitated their doc fee could cost their dealership their scion franchise. The dealer should have the doc fee posted. It is like any other fee with scion its not supposed to be negoitated. Sorry about your experience. I always tell my customers my doc fee upfront $98.00.

i had ZERO dealer fees when i bought my xB. alls i had to do was pay for the actual cost of the title and such. i didnt have to pay the dealer any extra for sending in my paperwork or anything

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!! 13%!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was your credit score like, 2?! It's all good, but usually you should be paying 4 or so percent for good credit, which they can do on the TC because it's such a high demand car, look at all the deals you can get with 0% financing, now THAT is a good deal!

Ouch! You may want to shop around and see if you can refinance at a lower rate...credit union maybe.
