Default Scion Speed Ruined My Motor

OK..HERES WHAT HAPPENED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FROM DAY ONE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CAT O/2 SENSOR. SO I NEEDED AN ANTI FOULER. I LIVE 80 MILES FROM THE SHOP. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS RUNNING RICH BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CAT. I WAS TOLD THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS TO INSTALL AN EMANAGE. I DROVE THE CAR LIKE THAT FOR 2 MONTHS. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN LAST MONTH. THE EMANAGE WAS INSTALLED AND I WAS TOLD TO PICK THE CAR UP. WHEN I PICKED IT UP I NOTICED BLACK SOOT ON THE BUMPER. I FIGURED THAT THEY WERE TUNNING AND RAN RICH AND BLACK ON THE BUMPER WAS NORMAL. I DROVE HOME. THE NEXT DAY MY CAR STARTED BILLOWING WHITE SMOKE. I CALLED JAYSON AND GOT NO ANSWER. I THEN ENDED UP TALKING TO LEXI. HE GAVE ME SOME RUN AROUND AND TOLD ME HE WOULD CALL ME BACK. NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN. IT WAS THEN DISCOVERED BY ANOTHER SHOP THAT THE TURBO NEEDED A REBUILD AND THATS WHY IT WAS SMOKING. NO FURTHER INVESTIGATION WAS MADE. I REBUILT THE TURBO AND REINSTALLED IT. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR STARTED AGAIN WITH THE SMOKE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP. I TURNES OUT THAT JAYSON IS NO TUNER. TUNING THE EMANAGE WAS BEYOND HIM. HE JUST REMOVED MY GLOVE BOX AND CUT THE WIRE FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. WE THEN PERFORMED A LEAK DOWN TEST AND COMPRESSION TEST AND FOUND OUT THAT CYL 2 & 3 ARE DOWN 30 PSI. THE HEAD GASKET IS NOT LEAKING. I HAVE CRUSHED RING LANDS ON THE PISTONS. THE CAR WAS LEANED OUT DURING THE TUNING PROCESS. I HAVE SINCE SPOKEN TO SCOTT AND JAYSON REFUSES TO TAKE MY CALLS. I WAS ALSO TOLD TODAY BY SCOTT THAT JAYSON REFUSES TO SEE OR TOUCH MY CAR.

Dude that sucks BIG time, sorry to hear about your motor. Time to call a lawyer.

P.S. Please don't use all caps anymore, it makes it incredibly hard to read and some people consider it yelling.

Thanks for sharing your experience regarding this company's turbo kit. I'm sorry that you blew your motor and I'm sure you'll get it back up and running in no time. My fiance has a tC and I've been considering buying a turbo kit and or trd s/c for her car. I was a little sceptical how Scionspeed's kit was going to turn out. 10psi+ on stock internals and an ecu thats programed for n/a creates a lot of stress on the motor.

It's been a learning experience with my turbo project on a 1mz-fe Solara. I've got all the internals beefed up but came to a painful conclusion that I can't fool the stock ecu with the new Greddy emanage ultimate. So now I've decided to go with electromotive tec3.

Did scionspeed encourage you to install a piggyback from the time of purchase? Or did they say you can run the car without it.

Which stage kit did you install? If so how many PSI? What was included with the kit?
*Nevermind I assume you intalled the stage II kit according to you sn*

The E-Manage can work well on most vehicles to a certain point. Sometimes it has to be supplimented with something like the Split Second ESC1. However, a true standalone like the TEC3 is the way for maximum tunability, functionality and power. BUT it costs close to $3K. Once again, you have to pay to play. Most people do not want to spend the extra $$ to make the power more reliable, but end up doing it in the long run.

Standalone > Piggy Back, but the cost for a piggyback is far cheaper than a standalone. Most people on here would not pay $6-7K for a turbo system that included a Standalone EMS. They are having a hard enough time paying $3-4K as it is.

To the original poster:

I am sorry to hear about your ordeal with Scion Speed. I hope it gets resolved quickly and painlessly. If there is anything we can do to help get your running strong again, let me know. PM Joe or myself.

Robert,

Man we know how bad this sucks for you as we have been trying to help you through this all along. Well look at the bright side you will have the first ever turbo kit built by Scion Speed fixed by ZPI. J/K man I know this sucks and you are out a lot of money and time. We will get this fixed for you so that you can go back to enjoying the car like I know you use to.

Wow is all I can say. ScionSpeed really turned out to be a real clown company.

However, to make a bad situation positive....with the tear down obviously required....beef up the internals while you're at it. One sick TC will be the result.

I will just add.....I think it is a very good idea to have a dedicated wideband AFR sensor and gauge if you plan on any ECU fuel map tuning.

If you cannot afford to rebuild you can get a used engine cheap, search car-part.com, I found a replacement for my Matrix for $500, seen the tC's for $7-800 or so.

But, if you afford to rebuild then I would go for a minimum of pistons, ported head, beefier studs, etc, that would be totally cool

That blows worse than Monica Lewinsky!! Yeah, get a lawyer. Also, VERY IMPORTANT!!, contact your local Better Business Bureau and tell them about their bad business practices. Good luck.

This could be a pretty tough battle guys, not to often can it be won unless you have some very hard evidence they caused it and not the owner. Then you need witnesses, contracts, etc...

I have seen it done but not easy and it could be costly if you lose. Just finding a competent lawyer you can trust is the first major hurdle.

I agree it sucks, just posting a reality check here, you cannot sue and win very easily nor cost effectively many times. It may be easier to just fix it and move on, put the energy into something positive, even something profitable and you will probably come out ahead in the end.
