New Inductee
Hey guys,
I've been a proud owner and platonic lover (for now at least) of a 2012 tC RS 7.0 for almost a year now. I would have preferred to have a manual tranny, but the only 7.0 available in a 100-mile radius was an automatic, and the High Voltage (or taxicab yellow, whatever you wanna call it) color, black 18-inchers and TRD body-kit were musts for me. A manual swap doesn't sound worth it at all so I'll just "tough it out" until the time comes to buy another Scion. With school and work I haven't been able to devote as much time to Maya as I'd like, so my first step has been to join scionlife.com.
The car is stock, but I'm currently saving up for a TRD axle-back, CAI, front and rear sway bars and 1" lowering springs (I'm trying to stick to TRD as I'd rather not risk voiding my warranty). A K&N air filter, which has gotten great reviews on Amazon and costs like 35$ is on the way right now. I'm not super knowledgeable about the most bang-for-your-buck upgrades for the tC2 so any input concerning performance mods would be super appreciated (although I'll pass on a turbo; it's expensive and sounds hard to install, and I'm pretty set on installing most mods myself). I wouldn't mind upgrading the stereo (even though the stock 160-watt Pioneer isn't too bad for an entry-level stock system), but I'm no soundman, so advice on that would be welcome too. Smoking the taillights is a project I need to undertake in the next couple of weeks, so if anyone has any tips on that I'm all ears.
I'm looking forward to hearing from all y'all, being a part of this forum and seeing all the great project Scions that are out there.
Peace

Welcome! I'm new here on the forum too, in fact I don't even have my tc yet, it's on it's way to me now.
As far as the K&N filter goes for performance, you won't see any difference. Even with a CAI/SRI you won't see much performance improvement (some people will disagree but you will realistically gain MAYBE 5 HP with intake and exhaust). With that said though, the TRD exhaust sounds beautiful, and an intake like Injen would also sound awesome!
Enjoy the forums and your tc!

@Dermals, my last hard drive crashed so the only pic I have right now is this one: [IMG]

And white13tC, yeah, I've been all over youtube listening to the different cat- and axle-backs and intakes and I love how the TRD sounds, offers a deep throaty rumble, without being too loud (I already get pulled over enough as it is, no need for a Borla). I'd definitely be getting those more for the sound than for a legit performance gain though. I don't really like how the 2014 tC looks so props on getting a new '13 while you can. All the white tCs I've seen rolling around are ____ing beautiful, definitely would have gone for one of those if there hadn't been a 7.0 screaming my name at the time.
What's cool about the K&N is that it doesn't need to be replaced, unlike the paper filters outfitted by Toyota (if I'm wrong about this please call me out on it), even if it doesn't add performance. I have a pretty long commute, so if it helps Maya gain a couple mpg's, it'll be worth it.
@TheQuietThings, the manual FR-S will be mine one day... Oh yes, she will be mine. Great car, it's insane that it's the only front-engine rear-wheel drive sub-$28k driver's car that doesn't handle like a boat (looking at you, Detroit) aside from the Miata. Hopefully the FR-S is only the beginning of the cheap, nimble driver's car revival.

@rudylovesmaya I think your correct with what you said about K&N filter vs. Stock TRD.
I love white. I didn't always though, I used to be a black car only type of guy, but I'm really **** about keeping the paint nice looking so seeing scratches on black started to ____ me off, and I quickly got drawn to the white tc. I really like your yellow though, looks real nice.

I agree DoubleA, that's in the works, but I wouldn't slam it more than an inch though (that's the most TRD offers), I can't afford not having a warranty (not sure if Magnuson-Moss covers suspension mods). If there's a loophole Toyota can use to void my warranty, they'll find it.
Also, my body-kit lowers the ground clearance by 2 inches, and the front bumper barely makes it over curbs when I park as it is (I feel like I'd forget about having lowered it and end up scratching it real bad). I'm only being a _____ about this because a few months ago I scraped the rear fender (the scrape was about the size of a quarter) and got a repair estimate of... wait for it... 800$. Long story short, not trying to have that happen again lol.
@whitetC, even if you scratch your car all over no-one'll notice: with summer coming up, that car'll be brighter than the sun!
