The Mobil1 oil and Toyota filter combination is very popular, and what I run. Mobil1 is available at autoparts stores and the filter is available at your dealer or online for a slight savings.

I use AMSOIL fully synthetic in my car, I used to use the AMSOIL high flow oil filters until they upgraded them and started charging $12 for them. Now I just use the Denso Toyota filter, which is also a high flow filter. I got a pack of 10 for $35...can't beat that.
1 vote for dino oil!
I have yet to go over 2500miles in 3 months, and I ALWAYS go with 3/3K rule when it comes to my Scion. For me, synthetics would be a waste of money.
Id say factory filter (I got a 10 pack for about $30-35 from my dealer) and either Castrol or Valvoline. 5w30 if you are in a desert like me, or the factory recommended 5w20 for cooler climates.

Lets put it this way the only car I have ever owned or kept for over 100,000 miles before the motor blew only had mobil 1 ran in it. 95 Jeep YJ Wrangler 155,000 miles traded in and still ran strong. Had a Cherokee used regular oil in it and it was junk at 91,000 miles. All of my American cars never seen 100,000 miles except the wrangler. I havent kept a Japaneese car long enough yet. I am sure the Scion will top them all.
