2006 tC EVAP check engine
Hello.
My 2006 scion tC (with 44000miles on it) had the check engine light on a month ago. I hit the
toyota dealership to get a $46 diagnosis of the check engine light.
The receipt reads
I don't know what they did, probably just reset it, but they made the light off. After a couple of days,
the light came on again as soon as some fuel (not full but halfway) has been filled at a gas station. I visited a local auto repair shop and the technician there told me EVAP is not a big problem and it would be waste of money replacing it. However, it did not make much sense to me since keeping check engine light on will prevent me from being notified with other future issues. Should I really pay $359.99 to replace it? Any suggestions?
P.S.
About a week ago from the first time the check engine light was on, there was an incident at a gas station. The trigger of the gas gun was stuck while I was getting it out from the filler neck and caused some gas running over the filler neck area. I think this incident is related to the issue.

OK, I'm throwing the same codes, actually just: P0441 and P0455, I always make sure that the gas cap is tight, I also had an incident where the gas nozzle did not click and gas spilled all over. I'm going to buy a new gas cap and see if that helps. Any other ideas? anybody?

I just had P0456 pop up yesterday, so I went ahead and ordered a new gas cap, mine was clicking almost right away when putting it back on... Thing is, it's been doing that for a while and i just NOW got a CEL. So, I hope it's just the gas cap and not something more serious...
How long after you changed the gas cap did it go away, or did you reset it yourself?

Yeah, I remember the annoyance of going through all those reinitialize steps... I pulled power earlier, after attempting to force the gas cap to tighten properly, but it must not have been powered down for long enough, because the CEL was still there when i put the neg. terminal back on and started her up.

Re: 2006 tC EVAP check engine
Had to do the gas cap swap today myself. Wouldn't even click. As long as the vac in my gas tank is good enough to pass emissions ill be happy. damn GA.
