On my beautiful tC I have found a bit of a problem. When it gets really cold outside, the trunk won't latch. It's not because the latch is frozen because I have been able to freely move the latch but when I go to shut the trunk, it simply will not close. Then- get this- I take my car to Toyota to get fixed and after much of the day is gone, they call to say everything's A-OK and to come pick up my beauty. First thing I do when I go to get into the car is check to see that I can't open the hatch without using the release. Don't you know the trunk opens freely. Bastards didn't fix the problem!!!! So I go back inside to the service counter and say give my damn rental back because you monkeys didn't even fix the damn problem. (this is also after they tried to charge me for the rental) So, the service mgr sends one of his so capable henchman to come check it out and don't you know the novice opens and closes my hatch via MY DAMN WING???? I was so livid that I couldn't mutter anything but GET YOUR DIRTY HANDS OFF MY WING!!! After another hour of waiting there watching the toy around with my car, the chalk it up to the grease that's used to lube the latch. They say that the grease doesn't lube as nicely in the cold. That's some bull- I almost can't wait to take it back to them on a warm day and say "Hey ___ monkey- what's the problem now? Is it still the "grease" or are you just incompetent??? I swear if I didn't love this car so much, I would've turned it in by now.

I can appreciate the fact that you love your car, but relax. If it continues to be a problem, take it back. Don't sweat the small stuff(great seminar!)

 

There are more mature ways to handle this that will fetch much better results.

Let's get something straight- no dude- it's chikita. You know of the female sort??? And I'm totally disappointed in your responses- yeah it ____ed me off and all but don't you think that they should be able to fix problems?? whatever- let's see how you guys are when something goes wrong with your car and you can't arm your alarm or even secure your car.

it seems the dealership you were at wasn't the best one, you are right, the guy should of not open and closed it with your wing and should of washed his hand before coming out to see the problem, you are right about that
but the thing is that you are probably a b*&ch SO, the service manager did not care about having you back or not so he sent either an apprentice or a straight of the boat mechanic to help you and get you the hell of his lot

once you start treating service departments with respect , you will get treated with respect, once that is gone for us, it is gone for you.

right now you have two things that could be wrong, the latch assembly or the part it buckles on to

oh and don't bite back at these guys, they are only trying to help, i saw no disappointing responses

thanks for your insight mach5- I guess b/c i'm a moron and all I wouldn't have thought that the latch assembly was faulty. Nope, that couldn't be it b/c the mechanics told me it was the grease used by Scion. I guess you are smarter than me. Damn- what would I have done without your insight?

Doesn't make sense that the grease would be the problem - if it is, then all tC's would be having this problem.

More than likely you got some water in the mechanism, which froze, and is making the latch bind. Probably be fine once it drys out. Maybe it got in there from a high pressure washer?

 

heres a thought, try closing it with some force, not just pushing on it with one finger till it stops, sure its a fragile car but it aint that fragile.

You'll never get the results you want when calling someone a monkey, they could have refused to serve you after that. Like someone esle said try a different dealer or a regular "joe schmo" car shop, BUT this time try using some respect. It can go a long way.

yo, everyone bashin her, if your car's hatch wasn't closing and you couldn't lock your car and you brought it to a dealer and they tried to charge you for a rental and give you some crap excuse about why it wasn't fixed then you'd be irate too. My guess is she wasn't as rude as she's coming off here because she was blowing off some steam. I know i'd need to if that happened to me.

 

my point is she called them a monkey, just plain, flat-out wrong. i'd be ____ed also, but you can't go around calling peeople monkeys.

 

The original post says "when it gets really cold outside". Taking it back to them when it is warm to prove it's not the grease doesn't seem to be the answer because it probably will close then as the original post stated. One answer said you may try using alittle more force. Have you tried that? My thinking is that rubber seals around the hatch may be alittle stiffer than normal when the temp. drops witch may make alittle extra force necessary.
