Anyone used this to get rid of scratches? WOW...

3M Rubbing Compound.
I tried to use scratch-x or something and it never came off since it was a deep scratch
i had scratch on my side skirt for months because someone steped on it hard when they got off or something and made a huge cut. i decided to fix it from bodyshop and i went there to get estimated.
this guy brought 3M Rubbing compound, placed some amount rubbed like 5 times and whipped it off.
bam! magically gone. saved $240 to repaint my side skirt.
i was damn happy!
so you guys should try this before you replace the part or repaint it.
3M is some of the best you can use, Pro detailers and body shops use it all the time. Scratch X probably would have removed that scratch if you used high speed polisher. That 3M Rubbing Compound is abrasive, you might want to go over that area with a polish to remove the finer scratches the compound put in.
Yeah 3m has a great line of buffing products. Their new 3000 line Works great. The only thing I dont like on is the new swirl mark remover. The best one they make is the old Perfect it-II Dark swirl mark remover. That stuff works miracles on black cars.
You gotta be careful with rubbing compounds. They are abrasive and will remove a significant amount of clearcoat. Overusing it can cause you to go all the way through the clear cote, which will look horrible and your paint will not last as long as it should. That said, it is a good LAST RESORT for deep scratches.
A note, do NOT just use such rubbing compounds as a first resort... always start with something less aggressive and then move up. Especially when trying to buff out scratches on more panels which wear out faster (such as hood or hatch lid), you want to be careful.
If you use it too many times, or even a few times, you can siginifcantly reduce the amount of clear coat left, which means you won't be able to polish nearly as much in the future, or use any rubbing compound. Also, if you get a scratch in the same spot, forget it (if its deep enough), since there isn't as much clear there anymore to be able to just rub the scratch out...
Also for that picture of the surface scratches... I think a much less aggressive polish probably would've done the trick on that one.
