My rear wiper plastics are discolored now....I wonder why....is it just mine or is anyone else's discolored too? Mine is turning GRAY, and it looks UGLY

 

sure it's not wax? wax leaves a nasty grey coating on the wiper - use some kerrosene and just wipe it down, should do the tirck

 

I'm really careful about getting wax on plastics, but maybe it could be from drive thru carwash, wich I used few times when I didn't have time to clean. I'll try to wipe it with kerosene to see if it works. :D

 

If not, then go to your local vinyl shop, and get a piece of outside gloss black. Clean the wiper with rubbing alcohol, let dry, and set the vinyl in place. Smooth out any bubbles.

I have had this kind of problem with my NEON, with both the B pillars and the outside window edging. Using vinyl as described above, mine had lasted 3+ years and still looks good.

 

Try Black Chrome. It's a detailing product that works good on black.

 

And everything else it touches. And, it washes off in about 2 washes, or frequent rain. Go with the vinyl, for about the price of the Black Chrome, you should be able to purchase some scrap vinyl to cover that little arm up with.

 

I really wish some bright person (pehaps with access to a Toyota parts department) would figure out a good metal replacement for that plastic "chatter wiper". I'll bet that a replacment is available right out of the parts bin, but which parts bin?

Would it be possible to switch it out with one from the front? If not, there has to be a Toyota in past few years that would make a close match. Sounds like a day at the YOU PULLIT junkyard.

 

i used mcguires rubber and vinyl stuff last time i wash mine. i noticed it was beginning to look a little discolored and it worked great. i don't really want to put vinyl on it or replace it just yet.

 

I'd recommend " mothers back to black". Black plastic always seems to look weathered fastest. Maybe tire gloss would keep a sheen for a while.
