Brake job needed so soon???
Got 16,500 miles on my Scion Xb, and the local Toyota dealer says my front brakes need replacing. Seems very soon to me, sooner than any other car I've owned. Any comments, suggestions or experience with this?
Thanks,

i replaced mine at 30k....
i did it myself, cost me all of $24 for pads/cleaner/two liter of dr pepper...
i dont let dealerships touch the brakes... two reasons, at a dealership it takes forever and cost a lot

and doing your own brake job is cake walk the front is way to easy and the rear drums is fun to change due to the small challange to get the rear drum off thats some what seezed on pretty imo i enjoy that kind of work (only as a hobby!!!)
yeah i'm on my original still 36k miles xa. drum brakes just require a bigger hammer thats all. along with the right tools for the job. drums should be good for about 100k miles or more.
you sure its not a brake service and not a full brake job.

86,600 and the brakes are starting to squeal.
that seems early for pads.
it depends on your location and and how you drive.
as you can see i have mostly highway mileage. from NY to NC, various car shows, girlfriend, mall, speed shop, etc, etc...
ill do my brakes soon once i've moved back down south. some brake pads ill order from bBist and some cross drilled rotors.
the way i drive, i wont need to replace them for another 3 years :-P

I don't have any idea what you all are ranting about with the auto having less... I just got the need to change them and I'm @ 37,500 miles. But yes it has to do with the way you drive... brake late alot? that'll do it, try to coast, you'll see improvement in brake life and gas milage
