Check engine light
Oh, and BTW...anyone else's check engine light come on yet? Mine came on halfway to Portland yesterday afternoon...I had about 3400 miles on it.
Thoughts? I called the dealer...plus, I later called my friend who works at the dealership...and both answers I got was that I hadn't tightened the gas cap enough???
Hopefully, the light will go out in the next day or so...I am due for an oil change now...so maybe they can check it all out?

the check engine light comes on when you are due for an oil change. do a search in the maintanance part of this forum and it will tell you how to turn it off. It is all by how many miles you have. If you go in for an oil change, they will do it also.
Is it on solid or does it just flash when you first start the car?

but if it is blinking would get it check but wouldnt stress to bad but if on solid try and get checked ASAP
Having a loose gas cap can cause the CEL to come on. The vehicle sees it as an evap leak. Make sure you twist the cap until you hear it click at least 3 times.
I had this same problem with my Echo. Unfortunately the unscrupulous service department at Dublin Toyota decided to gouge me for it. Because they had me sign a work order with a "default" $100 on it "in case it isn't something covered", they charged me 97 bucks to replace my alledgedly "MISSING" gas cap. WTF??? BTW, the Echo is setup the same as the xB, internal release on the gas door and tethered gas cap. So, according to Dublin Toyota, the gas cap apparently just disappeared. Maybe it went down the fill tube? Maybe it managed to slide itself out the closed gas door without leaving the slightest scratch or even marring of the surface around the gas door? Even if I had closed the flap with the gas cap hanging out (a near impossibility, try it) the nub on the end of the tether is larger than the space around the door where it would've had to slip thru, again leaving NO marks. Also, it apparently took the guy an hour to diagnose this and "replace" the gas cap, even tho I checked with my friend who's a Toyota tech and he told me the was a bulletin about the CEL for this and that they should check to make sure the gas cap was tight FIRST. My theory is that they'd written too many of these off and weren't going to get much warranty pay for it - who knows, they probably did that too, After the treatment I got there, I wouldn't believe there's ANYTHING they wouldn't stoop to do to make a buck, even if its to rip off a customer, well former customer... Moral of the story - STAY AWAY FROM DUBLIN TOYOTA SCION...
I never could get a straight answer out of them as to whether the light would have reset itself after more time with the cap secured or if it would've still required a service visit. Good luck, let us know what happens.

Thanx to everyone who responded to me.
The light did go back off on Tuesday (it came on Saturday and at that time they said it was prolly the gas cap and if I fixed that the light would go out in a coupla days).
I brought it in for its first oil change today...so that's all taken care of!
Where is everyone? Anyone in Seattle?
