deep paint "chip"
Haven't even had the car two months yet, and already been hit by two random flying objects while driving. *sigh*
Today was a rock that seemingly shot out of a dump truck about 3 cars ahead of me, leaped over all the other cars and came crashing down on my driver's side A-piller. I thought for sure it dented it, but it only seems to have chipped the paint. But deep. All the way down to the metal.
What would be the best way to fix this? I have to take the car into the dealer to have them fix a nice little scratch they left when they installed the pedastal spoiler. They should do that one free, but this one would cost me and I don't know if they are going to charge me an arm and a leg. Would a normal body shop be better? I don't think touchup paint alone will fix this..
Can anyone give me any rough estimates of what I might expect to pay. The chip itself isn't very large, but it's quite noticeable.
In any case, I am quite ticked right now

When a chip is big or deep it is hard to fix it without paint work. The cheapest fix is touch up paint. The unfortunate reality is that if you drive the car chips, scratches, and dings are going to happen. I know it's painful, I wan't to kill someone every time I see a chip on mine. Good luck man!!!

It can be filled with touch-up. It will take several coats to build the hole back up to be level with the rest of the paint. Use a tooth pick and keep adding paint slowly. Then when it is full almost finish it with some clearcoat touch-up. Then sand with some 1500 grit wet paper and buff with some scratch X. Should just about disappear. Just don't try to rush the drying periods needed to build the hole back up.
Sigh... I washed my car today, and I found 5 or 6 or 7 deep dent on my hood... probably rocks flew on it...
not on bumper though, only on hood.
I am so ____ed...
should i fix this or get carbon fiber hood ...? or just leave it alone? its not noticible unless you walk into it.

i'm tempted to wetsand a couple of spots that i fixed with touchup paint, now that i can properly buff them with my porter cable machine polisher...but what bothers me is the fact that i can never get a layer of clear coat over the touchup spot. when i bought my touchup pen, i bought a clearcoat pen also because it was suggested..anyone have any insight to this?

Once the color coat dries and shrinks you should be able to finish filling it with the clear coat.
Bottom line is. Our paint absolutely SUCKS. The best thing to do is take every opportunity to avoid chips in the first place. Owning a Scion has forever changed the way I drive.
