Default Do you do it yourself?

I have yet to use any of my free Scion oil changes...
You need to call the dealer and make an appointment, drive down to the dealer and wait, they told me I would have to wait for 1 - 2 hours.

This weekend I changed the oil and rotated the tires (7500 miles).
Total time was 63 minutes from start to finish. Total cost for oil (Castrol Gtx) and toyota oil filter was $9.50

The box is very easy to work on and maintain.... it's less work to do it yourself then take it in...

Anybody else do their own maintenience...

I plan on doing as much as I can. Oil changes for sure!

But I am only at 273 miles, so I have a month or so before my first oil change.

I will be doing my own oil changes, but everything else will be with the dealer unless I feel comfortable doing it.

nope, i took it in the dealers to let them change it. i called and they said that i dont have to make an appointment for it, just drive straight up to the service department. after 15min dropping off the xB, they finally lift up the xB. then another 10min for inspections/adjust tire pressure (yes, i saw them do that when i was sitting next to the window waiting). then they finally change the oil. the whole process actually took less than a hour and there were like 5 customers waiting...

I fully intend to do my own oil changes as soon as I use up the next two FREEBIES!!! I have always done my own on my other autos and will do so on the box.

I will use Amsoil and Yota filters.

i threw away the free oil change stuff. I do all i can myself, which so far, has been everything. Nothing ticks me off more than handing the keys over to someone and coming back with a few unexplained scuffs/scratches.

This is only the second of the 28 vehicles I've owned that I won't be doing my own basic maintenance on. By choice I've always done most maintenance myself (since well before my first transmission rebuild in 1967).

Being unable to do that anymore is VERY annoying.

Sorry to hear that... I work at a desk all day.. so I look forward to working on my cars. Also as Prototype_xB said, I don't trust others with my cars.
I'm no youngster anymore... I just have to go slower and easier... I have my son who is now 31 help me out when I need it... take care

What is the recommended torque for the oil pan bolt? I don't want to over tighten it when it comes time for my first oil change.

Straight from the Scion Repair Manual for the xB:

Oil pan drain plug 38 N⋅m 382 kgf⋅cm 28 ft⋅lbf

Maybe someone has the spec for the tC? (I suspect they are the same...)

I used one just cuz I was ther efor something else and the Box was due. I normally just go to one of those Spee-Dee places, not just any one, but a particular one that has treated me well. Now that I switched to Synthetic, I buy it at Costco and then just pay for the change. It's not worth the potential mess if anything goes wrong and then having to deal with the used oil, etc.

I was having the dealer do the maintenance every 5k miles because it was given to me, but now that I'm at the 50k mile mark, I will be doing it myself.

I'll be using Amsoil and Toyota filters.

I really want to do my own oil changes, but I've never had anyone show me how to do them. Could someone do a step-by-step, preferably with pictures of what I should be doing underneath the car. I'm sure I can handle it, but I don't even know where to start. Happy Holidays to all.
