I dont know if this is just me but when i start my car in the morning it takes almost 5 minutes for that engine cold light to go away and while waiting i noticed that the engine revs 200-300 rpm from about 900 while in park. I only have about 1k miles on it and it drives fine nothing else seems to be wrong with the car. is this something i need to worry about?

 

its all normal when it warmer out the cold engine light go off sooner then it does in the winter time

 

my tC will rev close to 2000 when its first turned on in the morning. after a minute or two it settles down to about 800 rpms.

 

yeah mine starts off at about 1300 when its cold then drops slowly to about 900 but usually when it gets there it revs by itself 200-300 rpm higher for afew seconds then settles down

but it does take a while for my engine to get down its revs when its cold...

 

Most, if not all cars do this when they start up. It'll RPM higher until it enters what's called a "closed-loop operation."

However, once you put it in gear, it'll idle normally because of a the load put on the engine.

 

its that blue light that comes on in the display next to the clock

I was just wondering what the rule of thumb is for how long you're supposed to warm up the car? And I also heard that revving the engine is bad while you're warming up.

 

You need to give the engine a few minutest to get oil circulating to avoid metal to metal wear.
I usually give it 2-3 mins then go...

 

whats the point of revving the engine while warming up you might as well just drive if you're gonna do that

actually in the manual it says not to warm up in idle it sounds wierd but it says it check it out

 

mine hits 2000 2500 normal stuff... my cai is loud as crap too when its cold...

 

i just drive and go, but if theres ice or snow on my car i let it idle and i clean off the snow/ice

 

no wonder i couldnt find it today...

 

I have to let mine warm up, because it won't shift into overdrive until that stupid light goes off. It seems to take forever and it's not even cold here!
Very annoying.
