first oil change?

first oil change?
I broke a 1000 miles earlier this week and was starting to wonder when I should go for my first oil change. It's only been about 2 months, and I know the manual recommends 3000/6 mo.'s, but I here a lot of people getting it done a lot sooner. let me know, thanks.
P.S. About the complementary oil changes.. I never got any vouchers or anything for them, so do you just go in and claim them? How does it work?

with the xA and xB the dealer gives us a free 1000 mile oil change, then you follow up with your 5K oil services from there.
your dealer should have gave you info on the freeoil changes. their maybe be info in your manual about it. just go in to your dealer and say im due for your first free scion oil change.

Look in the maintenance book (I wonder if people actually look at it...) and you will see three coupons for the free oil change in the last page.
Now whether you want to do an oil change early or not is up to you. There is no noticible benefit other than knowing that your oil is well... clean.
If you're going to bring it to the dealer to do it, most likely they are going to laugh at you. Why? Because it isn't necessary for modern cars.
Follow the mainantence schedule and your car will run for 200k miles. Heck, it is a camry for crying out loud
Now whether you want to do an oil change early or not is up to you. There is no noticible benefit other than knowing that your oil is well... clean.

with these toyota motors cant be to worried about it that much 1000 mile isnt necessary .... mayb if u had a ford or something then i could see why lol. But these cars usually can run great so much longer then what they recommend the time is to change.

During break-in of any engine, there are small metal particles that end up in your oil it is generally recommended that you change the oil at 1,000 miles or before depending on how hard you broke it in. I had mine done at 600 miles since I did a long distance drive right after I got it and I am a daily stop-and-go driver.

Think of it this way, it won't hurt your car to get an early change, but it's going to cost a little money and more often than not, more time than you'd like.
The "express service" line at my toyota dealer quotes me 2hr oil changes. I'd hate to see how long the other line takes.

i brought mine in at 2500. dealership said that they will charge 25 bucks if i get it early.. they said that changing your oil at 5k is recommended because its good for the break in period. i dont know i was ____ed.

According to my Service Rep at toyota there is no reason to change your oil at 500/1000 miles. the engines do not require the oil change due to a "break in period".
This is old school and no longer is required. If it was required in this day of lawyers do you not think the manual would state it.
that being said. It never hurts (except the wallet) to change your oil early.

I took mine with 3800 miles. It seems like the dealerships schedule oil changes every 3500 miles. But be carefull not to be jerked around!!! If you take your scion to a dealership other than the one you bought your car, and they charge you for the oil change, DON'T PAY!!! 
This happened to me last week. I bought my tc in MA, and took it for its 1st oil change at a dealership in New Rochelle, NY, and they had the nerve to charge me. They came with this bull sh*t that if I take my scion to a dealership other than the one I bought it from I wasn't entitled to the 3 complementary oil changes. So I called a scion rep rightway... and to make a long story short! I was right! Any and all authorized scion dealerships must give scion owners 3 free complementary oil and filter changes as long as it is done before 3 yrs or 36000 miles!
You should've seen the look on their faces...

I guess my dealer is a little more aggressive, I get a card every 3 months.
I took my XB in for first change at about 3300miles;
Im at about 8000 now and will be going in again tomorrow.
The dealer is supposed to honor the 3 free oil changes offered by Scion. I called my dealer b/c they only told me there was 1 free change, and then during the Scion questionaire on the phone, the Scion people told me there were 3.
I hate it though, I am ready to go synthetic. I hate waiting 3 hours for something I can do my self.
