actually 87 is listed in manual but u can use 89 it says.
i alter so it usually has 88 octane.
the Number should be on the fuel door so noobies arent putting 91 or 93 in it.
you can cause detonation and misfire running too high an octane as well,
its just a cheap addon they should have included is all.
i had to make my own label and put it on there cause im **** that way. : )

Seriously, though. I knew running lower octane in a car rated for higher was bad, but I thougth running higher octane in a car rated for lower would be better. Is that not the case?
I thought running higher octane will prevent knocking from the engine. If you don't hear any knocking, then use the one the car recommend.
Lots of time high octane have better additive to help clean the fuel injector.

you dont go dump racing gas 108 octane in a car and just race with it unless u are stupid, hehe variables need to be changed on the ECU,.

OK. Well, what about when you add a turbo or SC? I read that when the TRD SC is released for the tC, it will need higher octane, like 92. I mean, it's still the same engine. Why would it be OK to use higher octane after the SC is installed but not before?
Not that I plan on puttin higher octane in, not with these gas prices! In fact, that was one of the reasons i picked the tC over the Celica GT-S, RSX, VW GTI, and even the mazda 3 i think. I'm just curious.

Regular (87 octane, more or less) is cheapest. Octane isn't a measure of quality, only of how hard it is to ignite the gas. Higher-performance engines are tuned to get the most power from midgrade (89 octane) or premium (91 or 93 octane).
If your car is made to run on regular, you're wasting money buying higher-octane gas. Even if higher octane is recommended, your vehicle almost certainly will run without harm on lower-octane gas. You'll lose a little power, maybe 5%, but you're unlikely to notice.

My tC has 2700 miles on it. I have experienced only the dash rattle. Actually it is more of a squeak. It is tough to isolate due to the acoustic design of the interior... all sounds seem to come from everywhere in the vehicle.
The source of the squeak/rattle is the door that covers the stereo. If you hold it halfway between open or close, the noise goes away. I am guessing that the pivots on it need lubrication to eliminate the plastic to plastic rubbing. I haven't removed it as of yet to test this, but am pretty sure it will fix it. I think I will ask the tech at Scion to try fixing it when he replaces the seat he so stupidly BURNT WITH A SOLDERING IRON when he was installing the security system.
All small rattles aside, I have been nothing more than happy with my tC, even more so when I smoke the honda boys in there stock civics with lowering springs and loud ricey exhaust!!!
