Default Help on paint issues

Okay heres the deal. Some a**holes decided to egg my car the other night. I was out of town. The egg sat a full day on my car in one spot. that night it rained, and knocked a lot of it off, but theres one spot on the side where it ate through the clearcoat and left marks. I'm so damn ____ed

It's dull and lost its shine with little it looks like pit marks. What can I do to fix this if anything?

I've never buffed or polished a car in my life. Will that help it? It really blows. The size of the mark is about the size of the bottom of a pop can, in a circle. I dont know what I should do. It's dull and obvious that something happened. I dont wanna have this reshot either. I just need something to last me a few months. Any help would be awesome. Thank you!

First thing I would do is try a 3M Phase III rubbing compound. It is equivilent to 1000 grit wetsanding. Works great.

My stepdad's bright yellow Vette has a HUGE bird dropping smack dab in the middle of his hood. He tried Meguires Scratch-X and regular wax to try to get the haze off.

I took the 3M Phase III to it (by hand) and the haze came off with little effort!

If that doesnt work, you make need to take it to a body shop. They should be able to sand off all of the clear coat, and then re spray with a new clear coat. That way the color of your xB wont be affected.

Also check if the egging of your car left any dents. You may have a insurance claim on your hands!

i did leave a dent on the side. i cant claim insurance on a claim this small though with a 500 deductible. the only way im making insurance claim, is if i get hailed on or wrecked. otherwise its not really cost effective

I would recommened the 3M compounding also. It is less expensive than the repairs and the bottle will last you a long time if you have any other paint related issues in the future. If the compound doesnt work than you can try using wet 2000 grit sand paper to even out the dullness then compound it and it will blend in to the rest of the panel.

I would try to polish the haze off like I said before. If all the residue comes off, then call up DentPro and have them bump the dent out. If your can't get the haze off, the I would get an estimate at a body shop.

Trust me, It will be more than $500! I had to have a very little section of my hood repainted, and the lower bumper and the drivers side fender. (scratches from someone on a bike)

It was $950 to fix!

My body shop says its $300 a body panel on a car to fix! up to $500 for big sections.

In your case, it may add up!

okay update. i took it to 4 body shops. i said specifically "im not going to get it done here, this is for insurance" and asked them how much they would quote. it was that expensive because they have to repaint the whole back end. theres no way to blend it theyve said.

good news though.... new paint job on the way!!! custom!
