Default how often to wax

i've heard from people that your only supposed to wax your car no more than 2 or 3 times a year because it will dull the paint, is this true? i wash my car once a week at one of those do it yourself places and i use the wax everytime, but the wax that comes out of the sprayer probably isn't near the quality of turtle wax or other products. what are your opinions?

Wax Virgin - I'd Use Meguires liquid. Make sure care is very clean and dry. Apply wax to a section and let dry then wipe off. Use micro fiber towels (won't scratch). Don't do in bright sunlight.

It is really very easy. I wax about once every couple of months. After the winter I put at least 2 coats of wax on. Just did this last weekend.

Zaino is the best "wax" I've ever used, by far.

It's a bit pricey, but well worth it IMO.....

And if you need instructions for Zaino:

I agree Zaino is great, but for the 1st time I thought Meguires would be better. You don't want to scare him away with the price.

zaino is awesome and they have a starter kit thing that takes care of all your exterior cleaning as for interior stuff I use sonus.

shining monkey is the best. goes on and off easy.

as for how often to wax. every 4-6 months is good. most people will go every 6 months. i tend to do it every 3-4 months. be sure to use a clay bar which will help remove anything excess wax build up

I also have never waxed before, but I've been reading Autopia forums. They seem to suggest using Klasse All In One to clean the paint after claying, then applying Klasse Sealant Glaze followed by any waxes.
Has anybody used these products? What would you guys recommend?

I'm not looking for the perfect shine. I'm just looking for something that'll protect the paint but requires very little maintenance as I wash and take care of all of our family's cars. It's a biatch to keep 3 cars regularly clean but my tC gets the best treatment! Thanks!

In the manual it recomends you to wax your car once a month to repel water of your car. But i myself prefer to do it everytime i wash my car. Just like the shine it gives when you finished. But hate it when the grass sprinklers get water all over it =(.

Well then, Zaino it is (although Meguires is a very good product too).

Zaino is insane! I've used Mequair's, Mothers, Liquid Glass, Pinnacle, Zymol and a few others.

NOTHING lasts or shines like Zaino. Zaino beads water for months and months. I just did 2 coats to my xA RS and it looks awesome. I can post pics later if you're interested.

The key to Zaino is to use VERY little. This part is hard for most people because it's hard to see the Zaino going on. Once it is buffed off you can definitley tell it's there!

I'd like to see some pics if you don't mind.

I use Zymol myself, but I buy the upper mid level wash and
wax products. Expensive, but worth it.

I get comments all the time on how my box looks more blue
and people actually thought I got different rims after I gave
them a good wash and wax with my Zymol.

Honestly, anything better then the Walmart fodder is going
to do a good job, and synthetics are going to give you a
longer protective coat. I use Zymol (all natural carnuba and
plant oils) over a synthetic, because I know it brings out the
color in my box. Dig it:

And here is my hood after a quick wax with the Zymol Titanium. Keep in mind, what
you are looking at here is a BOP hood, reflecting the sky on a very overcast day!

Good products and the time to use them as directed is the key. I really dont' believe
there is a product that stands light years ahead of the rest...they just all do the
same thing slightly differently!

not true...clay bar is for impurities in the paint.....after you wash and dry, run the back of your hand lightly across the paint....if it doesn't feel like glass, you need to clay.... very small, non-visible particles of dirt and sap and such will actually get imbedded into your paint and make it "rough"(anything but smooth)....you can generally feel this the most on the side skirts and front bumper.....

another tip: these are the steps you should take for wash, etc.

1)wash
2) dry
3)clay
4)Paint Cleaner/buff
5)Paint Polish/buff
6)Wax/buff

personally, I like using Meguiars 3 step system (4, 5, and 6)..... Meguiars gives me excellent end results and is easily accessible and not pricey....

actually, along with removing the extra grim that is in the clear coat it will remove excess wax which people don't usually take the time to remove. the theory is that washing with car soap will remove all the excess wax, but that is not true. you need to use a dish soap along with the clay bar to get off everything you want. after reading my original post it looks like i left out some words.

I wash every week or every other, and wax once a month. My xB sits outside and is subjected to eveyrthing you can think of with farm land around. When it rained for three straight weeks, I had washed and waxed before and when it cleared up.
