I got my first 3 complimentary oil changes from the dealer every 3k miles. No problems, and even if there was, the dealer did it, and it's under warranty. I'm coming up on 12k miles and will be changing my own oil from now on.

Just got my 1st free oil change at 4700 at the dealer and they used Pennzoil. I was kind of taken back by the mini-oil filter! I wasn't use to seeing a filter 1/3 the size of the standard size filter that was in my Integra. Gee, I hope this does its job. With its size there's no room for any defective sections in the filter and still be effective.

I have said it once before, my cousin had her oil changed at Jiffy, and they forgot to install the plug and re-fill with oil. My cousing; being a dumb blonde, just drove off and later that day noticed a noise from under the hood. Her boyfriend checks it out, and no oil! And no drain plug.

Toyota dealers do not use Toyota oil. In fact, I don't know if Toyota even markets its own brand of oil. Our dealer uses Quaker State oil, others probably use whatever oil is cheapest from the jobber.

If you're using petroleum oil then any brand is pretty much the same as they are all made to meet the current API specification.

Synthetic oil opens a new can of worms.

i need to start proof reading my posts. leaving words doesn't help. i meant to have it say toyota picks oil that is better then pennzoil. you are right about using quaker state.

I don't think that there is anything particularly bad about Pennzoil. It meets the same specs that Quaker State, Mobil, Texaco, etc. meet. I will note that my Toyota dealer used Mobil oil for the first change, and Quaker State for the second. It probably depends upon which jobber will give them the best price on oil when they need it.

Dodge had a commercial a while back that showed a car broken down in the middle of nowhere. The camera spotlights the missing drain plug and follows the line of oil up the road to a Jip-Me Lube kinda place where this pimply faced kid picks up the plug and goes "Bummer..."

my wife had the oil cjanged at Jiffy Lube on her '99 Mazda. The next time i did the oil change myslef. I couldnt even get the drain plug out since it was so tight and completely rounded off. It was like they used a impact wrench and a socket two sizes too big. Never again.

i'd have to say.. the scions are the easiest cars i've ever looked under for an oil change.. you can reach the frikken filter from above, standing on the ground! and it's on the intake side, not the exhaust, so you wont' get burned!!

Our dealership uses Mobil 1 on all Toyotas and Scions. However, bring in a non-Toyota brand, and you will get Pennzoil.

That's pretty unusual! Do you include the oil as part of the oil change charge, or do you charge for it separately?

I took my old Tacoma into Walmart for an oil change once, ONCE. (I know, it sounds stupid from the start but they were the only ones open late and I figured its just a friggin oil change) The next morning as I back out of the driveway I get a big gusher of oil running out from under my car. I took it to the local guys and they looked and the oil filter had a hole in it because they used a filter wrench to put it ON! Luckily for them, the drip was over the frame rail and just dripped inside that until it built up and ran out...

$23.95 for our customers. Not a bad deal, and your warranty will stay intact. I've seen the damage that jiffy lube does, and the peace of mind is worth it. Yes, the oil is included. The sweetest part of the deal is my employee discount -- I've got a 2000 Camry and a Mobil 1 oil change is $14.86 for me.

Not bad, but let's not perpetuate the myth that you must have your car serviced at the dealer to keep the warranty intact.

As long as the car is serviced competently at the specified intervals and the service is documented with the appropriate notations in the owner's manual or other logbook your warranty will remain intact. It doesn't matter whether the service is done at the dealer, an independent shop, or in your own driveway.

If a manufacturer wishes to make dealer service manditory, they can do so only if the service is provided free of charge. That's by government regulation.

At least until they find out that Uncle Bob doesn't really own 12 cars!

Like most people have already mentioned and told, Jiffy sucks. My freind took his integra there for an oil change(have no idea why), and when he got home he called me up sayin that theres smoke comin out from under the hood. I go over to take a look, and they didnt even put the oil filter on tight, thing just turns. Oil changes should be done yourself or at the dealer since you can blame them for there mistakes.

George,

You are completely right. I change all my own oil on both my cars. That way I will always know how tight the drain plug is on and the oil filter is hand tightened on. I also document in the owners manual or in case of Toyota or Scion, I document in the Schedule Maintenance Guide, Date, Mileage, and I sign it. That is really all you have to do. :D

So you just use your hand to loosen and remove the oil filter and hand tighten the new one?
