Clay bar only gets out grit/embedded stuff, not orange peal. You'll have to wetsand or get a new paintjob.

yeah, I think everyone's got the orange peel. I'm not sure I'd dare take sand paper to it, either. Pretty thin stuff.. BUT I know someone's paid a shop to sand and add some layers of clear to the stock paint job and you could see the diff. Even in pics. really made it look nice.

That's just the normal quality of the paint. They gotta cut costs some where. It's not all too bad, you have to be really looking at it to notice it.

Are you refering to the paint at the bottom of the car, below doors, etc.? If so, that is not there because of a bad paint job or low quality paint. Toyota does that on all of their vehicles. THe paint in that area is actually very thick and hard. It is there to protect against rock chips etc. This is the area that usually gets hit hardest by road debris, rocks, sand, dirt, and other objects of destruction. Be glad it is there. Cherish it, love it, even kiss it(after it has been washed). If you are not talking about that area, and the paint is actually peeling or breaking, then that is different and you should get it fixed.

They are not talking about the rock gaurd stuff you find on other cars. My box has none of that stuff. He's talking about the overall finish of the paint, it comes from the spraying process. If the gun is not set right or the job is rushed this is what the finish looks like. And yes the only answer to correct the problem is to have the whole car sanded and resprayed with some QUALITY clearcoat. About 4 or 5 good coats would be good and then sand off 1 or 2 then buff to a show finish. IT SUCKS BUT SCION IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!

He's talking about the finish, not the paint peeling.

Generally when cars are painted it does not come out smooth. It literally looks like the surface of an orange peel. It's very very subtle in the case of the xB. Most people don't even notice it.

Most all cars have orange peel from the factory. Some worse than others. Toyota isn't always known for it's qaulity on paint issues. It's not a warranty matter though - you're S.O.L. basically, unless you can show it's dramatically worse than 'acceptable'.

My black box has the orange peel really bad. I also didn't notice it until I washed it the first time.

Other people have noticed it on mine too!

He's right. Mine has it also. Some have it bad and some you can't notice. Cars/Trucks used to not have it that bad but it's getting bad now-a-days. I had an01 Jag S-Type and it even had it too!
See you can tell it has a slight OP to it.

I have a friend who got his 04 Chevy Truck repainted by the dealership cause he complained about the orange peel. So there is something you can do it about.

I have a PW '05 but I don't have any OP - I wonder if it is more prevalent no the pigment colors??

May not be as noticeable, but I'm not sure.

The paint on my car seems fine. It has the peel down on the bottom but every Toyota does.
