So I had a little incident with leaving the windows open a tad during a vicious storm. Afterward I sprayed Lysol on the seats and fabric parts on the door to prevent any mildewing. BUT, where the Lysol hit the hard surface part of the doors, it started to turn WHITE:



WTF I tried scrubbing on it with just a wet washcloth, and also with Armor All orange wipes.. they make the whiteish color fade away but it comes back. What do I do?!? o_O

 

if it has any sort of bleach in it, that may have caused it. Never have seen that before.

 

get some sandpaper and sand it. Then get it painted somewhere. This is your chance for your next mod! woohoo!

 

Id start with a black plastic dye (like Mothers 'Back-to-Black') first before I did any sanding. The only problem I see is that it might make the other doos look like a different color since the OEM color is a very black grey.

 

LOL.. I may just try to match up the paint myself..

 

not sure it has any bleach in it because then the seats and door panel cloth would be white also, how long has it been like this, you might just have to wait for a hot day or something and it might just evaporate out of the plastic or something, unless its some type of chemical reaction.

 

It was about a week ago now.. and seems MORE visible when it is hot. (I'd also sprayed it when it was pretty hot out)

 

i think lysol is mainly alcohol based, but there are some other compounds in there that make it pretty serious stuff - not your typical "air freshener". Remember, this stuff can kill ebola virus, is meant to be used as a "disinfectant" not a "make my car smell pretty" spray!

 

It also kills mold and mildew.. which were my intentions.

 

dang that really sucks...you go out there trying to "do right" but in the end it would have been better if you had done nothing at all...thats the story of my life...is it just that door panel...if anything you could check the classifieds on here or ebay, even some of these people that post their wrecked xB's could possibly sell you a door panel. it would be better than sanding it and all that. just a suggestion. something i would do.

 

If you've already tried wiping it down with clear water (a LOT), try some Armor-All on it before sanding it (!). Remember that surface is very textured, so everything from wiping it down to Armor-All-ing will take a bit of work to get into all those tiny little waffle-holes.
No guarantees, but might be worth a try.

 

try using a worn soft toothbrush it wont damage the surface and will get in all the grooves of the texture.
