Default Magnetic drain plug?

I did a search to try and find some info on this with no luck. I was wondering if a Magnetic drain bolt would do any good? i have raced Motocross for a few years and ive always used Magnetic drain plugs. You wouldnt belive some of the crap that thing can trap! I was just thinking would it have the same effect on a car which has an oil filter? Or perhaps trap stuff you would want the filter to get?

Thanks for any help!!!

the reason that you use magnetic drain plugs on a motorcycle is to catch metal filings from the transmission. In a motorcycle you use the same oil for BOTH the engine and transmission. On a car it has two different oil pans for the engine and transmission. The transmission pan actually has a couple of magnets already in there for this reason

past carws that i have had, and replacement plugs i have bought, come with a little magnet built into the drain plug. Never seen any metal on it though.

There is no harm in putting a magnetic drain plug in the oil as well as transmission.

I have magnetic drain plugs in on my oil pan and tranny. This is not on a scion though.

As far as catching materials, the oil always stays pretty clean minus some smudge but the transmission usually picks up some metal spikes.

Yes they do but an added magnetic drain plug still will catch shavings.

And give you an approximation of how much shavings are present , visually that is , rather than breaking down the transmission to check the internal magnets.

As for motor oil magnetic plugs , why the heck not , allthough metal chips , flecs are less prone to happen any metallics that you can stop from circulating is a great thing.

I feel that you would benefit from getting one especially for the cheap price. I believe they run about $25-$30 I think its a good investment. Its not bad if you dont get one but at the same time it could help if you do get one. There are some on the pan but then they collect there if you can get them all to the plug then when the plug is pulled you could just whipe it off and no shavings in the pan anymore.

On the xb, are the oil drain plug and tranny plug the same size?
