Default maintenance require light and check engine light.

I just drove over 5000 mile and got the MRL. Do you guys know how turn it off besides changing the oil? Also, I have got CEL couple of times, so I asked dealer. They said it happend because I didn't close the gas cap until the click sound. Is that true? I just wondering it happend to other tC too...

It's there because you need to change your oil. Have you already done this?

My tC's maintainance light came on at 4700 miles, and I'm glad it's there reminding me to get my oil changed. If you've already changed your oil, try holding down the little button in your glove compartment.

And yes, if you don't close your gas cap completely, the 'maintainance required' light will come on. I usually turn mine three clicks after fillup.

I know this is an old old topic but it seemed the most relevant area to post. I just got my wife her Xa in April and have the 3 free oil changes left (She's at a little over 3k so i need to take it in anyway) but after that I will be doing it myself. I see that there is a button in the glove box for the tc but how about the Xa is it in there too? I'm at work right now so I can't check. The stealership told me that it has to be taken care of by their mechanics but I am sure that can't be the case.

I don't know them off the top of my head, but I do remember seeing instructions for turning off the maint. req. light printed in my xB's owners manual.

to my understanding u need to hold the button that toggles between odo, trip a, and trip b while turning the ignition to off. while still holding the button, turn the ignition back to on. you will see 5 vertical lines come up. each line represents 1k miles and if you keep holding the button 1 line goes out at a time.

o btw, the whole line thing is in reference to how many mile you want the maint req'd light to come back on. if you want it to come on again at 5,000 miles then you want all 5 likes to be displayed. if you want it to come on at 4k miles, then you only need four lines and so on

That's interesting that it would be set up like that. I would have an easier time taking care of that from the passenger side since the odometer is in the middle. hmmm...

The light IS covered in the manual.
I'm more troubled that there are people waiting 3 and 5K to get their first oil changes done. First oil changes should always be after 1K. Then switch over to Mobil 1 for long engine life.

It needs to be reset. It is covered in the owners manual.
