Default MAJOR brake pad rust after winter storage

Hi yall just need a lil advice. I Bought my tC back in JULY of last year, i love it Well I stored it outside my home for the winter in Western NY. I took all the basic winter prep steps.

The only thing that concerns me is the EXTENSIVE rust on the Rotor pads. This is my first new car and I just wanna do it right. Just curious to everyone's thoughts on this. Do I need to remove the rotors and have them slightly resurfaced? The pads are completely covered in rust and when i run my finger over them it is very rough. Any advice is appreciated as always guys! Thanks

if it was me, i would just drive around and use the brakes, it'll strip that crap right off for you. your going to have a hard time getting the inside by hand, unless you take the rotors off. i think you'll be ok

You don't think just driving the rust off will pit up the rotors? Thats about my only concern really hate to ruin almost new rotors. Many apologies if I seem to paranoid LOL just tryin to be cautious. Thanks all

yep thats works! I noticed that I had rust on my rotors and thought about the pain it would be to clean them but after I got home from school it was gone.

This is a wearable part, and is not covered for wear, nor rust. Just like your belts, wipers, and tires are not under manufactors warrenty. * i know that tires are usually covered under the tire maker.

The rust build up is normal. Drive regularly and see what happens after a few stops. If upon closer look you see that the rotor is pitted, then you should have the rotors resurfaced to get them out.

its that simple! now, go drive that thing.
be easy on the brake pedal for the first few stops. it might be a little grabby.

if it was real, real, real bad you might get a pulse in the prake pedal...
if you do, get the rotors cut, but i doubt that this will be an issue...

if you don't want it happening again, you should try spraying down your rotors with wd40 before you put the car in storage, it should help to prevent rust. just be a little careful when you take it out, give it plenty of distance to stop for the first couple of times

I did this on my Huffy when I was a kid. Take it from me. BAD IDEA.

I was the fastest kid on a bike, but certainly not the "fastest"
