I am going to install an oil block adapter so I can hook up some gauge senders to it. I was wondering if I can remove the oil filter without draining the oil first?

No way I hope you were kidding by asking that question. You have to drain the oil first

 

Tell you what, why not just turn the car upside down?

Nope. Not kidding about this one. My buddy insisted that the oil would settle back into the oil pan over night and that only a little oil would leak out when I took out the filter. Anyway, I've only changed oil filters at the same time as changing the oil so I didn't know, but it sounded kinda weird. Thanks for the heads up.

 

Your friend may be right. Depending on where the oil filter is installed you may be able to change the oil filter without draining the oil pan. The oil pan is the lowest point in the oiling system and it may drain back into the pan. If you can do this on a Scoin you will only loose the oil in the filter. Having said this, I don't know where the oil filter is on my XA and may never find out as I let someon else do the oil changes at my age.

 

Guess what? I didn't have to "turn my car upside down" and was able to take out the oil filter without draining the oil. I let the car sit overnight and all of the oil went back down to the pan. Only a dribble was left. So if y'all are wondering if you can change the filter without changing the oil, the answer is yes. Just make sure that you let the car sit for a while so the oil can settle back.

 

Theglen10 I just got my xa and every one kept asking me where the oil filter was so I looked around and I belive I spoted it in the front portion of the engine way at the bottom dont really know how else to explain it. Also it looks real easy to change looks like all you would have to do is crawl in from the front a inch or two and you can reach it. hope this helps
