Oil Change(s) - Which Brand used ?
Hi All!!!
O.K. . . I've been changing oil in cars for more years than I care to admit.
I have a couple of questions. . .
What oil does Toyota / Scion use from the factory in these little boxes?
What oil do each of you use, when changing? :?:
The reason I ask . . . While test driving an xB, I saw a "Castrol" oil change sticker on the windsheild of a NEW Scion. It had 10 miles on the odometer.
No-one at the dealer could / would answer with a definite reply.
I have used Penzoil in previous vehicles, and have gone as much as 219,000 miles on an engine, and not had any oil related problems.
I put 191,000+ miles on my 1981 Toyota Corolla w/ the 3TC motor. It used less than half a quart between changes (every 3,000 miles), when I sold it.
Thanks in advance.

Hey I got the 3 year service package and im going to user it!! But if your going to due it yourself run synthetic! Moble1 is a good brand!!! Dont use Penzoil and Ill tell you why. Unless Penziol has stoped puting parafin in there oil dont use it! Every engine I have ever rebuilt that ran penziol in ti had the worst gumed up nasteyest buildup I have ever seen. You could scoop the deposits out of the engine heads or oil pan with a spoon! Yes it was that thick! I'm not saying that other oils dont leave deposits I'm just telling you that my experience has been the Penzoil is the worst!!
Hi All!!!
I called my local dealer yesterday. (Waldorf.)
They told me (Service Dept.) that they use Castrol in all the cars that they sell / service.
As for Penzoil. . .
As stated previously, that's all I have used for years!!!
One of my older cars had Quaker State 'Super Blend' (10w-30) used in it, since day one. When I bought a '76 Nova, (NEW) the car 'used' that oil like crazy. I switched to Penzoil on the recommendation of a friend that races for a living. Been using Penzoil ever since.
I dunno. It's been a few years since having a little 4-banger. They do run at higher rpm, so, I might try Penzoil in it for the first change and see how it goes.
(I could use one of the three 'Free' changes at Scion, but, I work 6 days /wk.)
I need the car to commute, and I don't see Scion open on Sundays.
I don't like using different brands of oil, though. One oil will leave deposits on the parts/in the engine - another will remove those deposits.
I've just had SUPERIOR results with Penzoil.
More comments?!?!?!?
Thanks.

I let the dealer do the first three. I Just did my first one at 10k. I used royal purple 5W-30 and I'm pretty impressed. I can feel a difference. Unfortunatley it is hard to find. In all my other cars I use Valvoline synpower.

I've heard that if you want to run synthetic, you should run conventional oil for the first few thousand miles. I guess it helps the engine break in properly. I've also heard that when running synthetic you can run it 3000 or so miles, change the filter only and add a quart to top off the system, and then do a full change at the next 3000 miles. This is because the synthetic doesn't break down like the conventional oil. I know a few people who have been doing this since synthetic became mainstream. One of them has an 89 taurus w/over 230K on the clock!
One last thing

just my $0.02
 ROYAL PURPLE 5W-30 ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!!!!! That oil will give you better performance. Give you more horsepower and boost your gas mileage. Can't beat that. I love it.

amsoil 0w30 xl, at 8.35 a quart, it's good, I change it once a year, I save more gas than with royal purple or redline.
better than royal purple 5w30, which i'd have to change 3 times a year + filter.
