Default oil filter

same as corolla correct? fram 4697a i believe?


im having the worst trouble getting the origional off. tried with the filter wrench and its foinf nothing but denting the filter... and my man power just isnt working without grip .... help! what did you guys use to get this off with?

ph4967, i used a filter wrench & did indeed dent the filter but it came loose. I have been told a heat gun will help a great deal if you can not remove the old one. When you do get it off ensure you put fresh oil around the gasket to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Please, for the love of your engine life, do NOT use a FRAM filter.

And a wrench will help you out. You can get one for <$10 at your local auto store.

just get a set of large channel lock plier sand have at it!

In a pinch, a piece of sandpaper wrapped around the filter often works.
If you're really screwed and dumped your oil before you found this out, you can drive a screwdriver into the filter to get it turning.
Don't ask how I know that...

i've dented mine before and kept twisting it off untill i got it off
