Default Power washing engine???????

the sales guy at toyota said you can power wash their engines, but he really doesnt strike me as too smart.
can anyone concur this, i know to avoid electrical components, but any other tips?
im sure none of this is covered if something gets screwed up.

You are pretty much fine washing any part in the engine bay. You are correct to make sure to watch the electrical also if you have an intake make sure not to directly spray into that. I personally have not had any problems with washing my engine but i have heard of some horror stories. Anything that I feel the little bit suspicious about directly sparaying with a pressure washer I avoid it and hand wash it.

just dont put direct pressure on anything not metal. Pressure washers can eat trhough plastic if held close enough long enough. I think it should be fine, keep away from the filter like the other guy said.

so all of the pums should be ok, what about abs? and the area around the firewall? (tb, intake manifold, connections going to the car)
so whats toyota's liability if someting gets screwed up when they have their reps. telling me that i can do this? (im sure itll be fine, just want to 2x check)
also, can anyone reccomend a good degreaser? one that doesnt leave any haze afterwards so no wipe down is required?

It was installed with like 1500 miles on the car so it was nice and clean in there. And they cleaned it up real good.
I wont take a pressure washer to the engine upclose but I will spray it down. As far as brave with the SC. The sc is solid. Its probably the safest thing in the engine bay to power wash. The only thing I put the pressure washed directly on is the pure metal parts to clean them up. Anything plastic electric, foam, or the such, I hit from a distance then wipe down.

When I clean my engine, I just use a garden hose to douse the engine and get everything wet. Then, I use a spray bottle of Simple Green to go over everything that looks dirty. I let that sit for about 5-10 minutes then use a brush to scrub the places grime gets stuck. Then, I pull out the hose again and rinse everything off. Works pretty well.

Hello Nick ( knew I would find you here)

Use good old dollar store Mr. Clean, great degreaser, won't harm rubber or plastic, leaves no film, and good for nature.

Mr. Clean is an old trick used by the old timers for car shows.

S100 Cycle Cleaner is similar to Simple Green. Costs more, but is made for washing engines, and says it won't hurt materials or connections. But it does say to rinse it off promptly. I failed to do that once on my bike, and droplets discolored the paint on my air cleaner.
