Problems with S-Techs
Whats up everyone, I was just trying to get some input on Tein S-Tech springs or my situation. I've owned some Tein S-Techs for several months which translates to ~7500 miles on them. I currently have 18" rims with some 215/35/18 Yokohama tires that i put on at ~10000 miles and I notice that the springs are pretty soft. The problem that I have been running into is that the suspension feels awkward. I notice that in turns the car rolls too much sometimes as in more than usual. Its an on-and-off occurence and it happens in all types of turns including 90 degree turns like on a regular street or long curves on the freeway or whatnot. It seems to be more the driver side than the passenger side. I thought that it might be because of the 15 rims with tall rubber and there might be some flex in them but it still occurs with my low-pro tires with proper inflation ~40psi. When i actually got my tires mounted i asked the person to look at my suspension since it was on a lift and he did say it looked sort of funny. Just to let you know I did do the spring install myself but I did everything to the book (Scionlife.com tech post) and I do have adequate experience with cars. I double checked all the procedures of the installation and checked on the suspension after i finished. Another problem i notice right now is that when i look at my car from the back the passenger rear wheel seems to have more of a camber, instead of seeing a 1/4" of rubber out from the fender on the driver side i can see 1/2" rubber out from the fender on the passenger side (almost as if its sitting lower on the passenger rear side hence more camber). I also had a friend who is a mod on S2ki.com that heard of some bad experiences with Tein so it just makes me more and more suspicious that the springs i got are defective. Anyone have any suggestion as to what to do. I'm considering to replace the springs with some others but I want a spring with a drop not lower than 2"and a really stiff ride cause I hate roll. Anyway, Thanks in advance for all your input.
I also want to mention I purchased my springs from Option Imports

40 PSI ??? what do you mean 40 psi? thats a lot of air!! where does it say you need to put 40 psi in a tire that size
the only time ive seen higher than 40 PSI was in BMW's
the E38 M5 ask for 48PSI in the rear tires
sorry to get excited. but who or where does it say to put that much air in your ride? 215/35R18 ?
sorry to get excited again
tein offers a warranty i think

I don't think the springs will affect your camber in the manner you are describing. The springs will only control the ride height and softness. The rest of the suspension controls how the tires are aligned. If the car appears to be level all the way around, I would look at other things like the struts, control arms, tie rods, etc.
I wouldn't worry. They are very popular. If this was common, you'd see it all over this site. I have S-techs and love them. I really don't think it's the springs based on Silencei2's description.

i would seriously think about getting new struts/shocks....if the ride seems mushy...lots of bounce and body roll...that means theres not enough dampening in the system...you said you have rode them for 7500 mi....the stock shocks are prolly riding on the bumpstops by now....they were ment to work with the stock springs...seriously think about getting short stroke shocks/struts..ie tokico hts or illumina with adjustable dampening...swaybars also play a big part in antiroll..
also, if your looking for performance....look to a smaller size rim and tire combo....less rotating mass equals better performance....just mah 2cents...ive learned that from my autox and touge days...unless you got the power to push those big meats....theyre only good for the bling factor..
hope this helps..

Yeah... I would prob. just take everything apart and double check. Don't laugh, but I one time actually installed back spring in front, and front in back (with a obx coilover on Celica gts. They look the same! I swear!! ) ... So ... just double check everything first.
If the prob. persist, then I would check alighment and tire pressure as well ...
Hope you find your prob. soon. =)

i got money on the shocks
how heavy are those 18's compared to the stock wheels
that weight has to be carried and dampened by the strut/shock
it will wear prematurely with heavier wheels/tires
