The quality of the paint is bad
I am very disappointed of the paint for my Xa. Today is my 1st day I drove the car to work on the highway. My hood got a small chips from the rock and the paint is off. I don't have the front end mask and my car is white. I am thinking to buy one now. This is really suck! I heard that the paint for the car is really suck. Anyone has this problem?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I have a white tC and my paint is pretty f'ed up. I absolutely find it hard to enjoy my car when from every side there is some kind of black showing from paint damage.
They are all due to stray doors/drivers except the new one on my front bumper. I have no clue what happened there.

Yes, the paint is really bad. I can't enjoy my car too, especially the car is new. I am going to buy the front end mask. But i know it can only cover the small portion of the hood. Not the bumper. the paint in my old honda is more better.

thats the main reason that i had mine painted, but from what i under stand is that the paint is a single stage basecoat/clearcoat, meaning that the paint actully serves as the clear, and if there is no clear, there is no protection for the paint, but this was all with the hopes of keeping consumer cost down
...all due respect, if you're looking for a top dollar paint job, buy a top dollar car...rocks will chip paint. especially when the nose of the xA is slanted the way it is. I have a couple chips, and yes, it drives me nuts, but I still enjoy the car...alot. I am probably going to put a CF hood on and not worry about chips anymore. When you look at the car, and the chips start bothering you, just remember how much (well, little) you paid...and how unique your car is...or if that doesn't work, get a new freaking paint job.
first off, for the monay paid they could of done a better job with the paint. a co-workers 10k huyndai has better paint then my xa and he drives a lot more then i do.
and whats the point of buy a brand new car and then getting it repainted? the just defeats the reason for buying a 13k$ car. if i wanted junk, i would of bought a kia or a ford focus.

After 20K miles, the paint is the ONLY thing I can make a complaint about when it comes to my car. I have some rock chips on my hood, and a few scrapes from doors too. Other than that, I can't say anything poor about the car.
Stop tailgating!!!
But seriously, I've owned high-end cars and low-end cars...they all get rock chips on the front (depending on where/how you drive.) The likelihood of rock chips goes up when you drive too close behind people. Also, the front of the xA is pretty much a scoop for little stones...it's not the paint, it's the airflow. My Protege5 was the same way. My 325i did it and my Volvo does it, too...they're square.
As far as Honda having better paint, I can dig out pics of my Del Sol to prove that's not true!
The only way to avoid stone chips on a modern car is to buy an AWD wagon of some sort with that nasty grey cladding on the bottom. Or get some of that clear 3M stuff stuck on your car.

that clear stuff is awesome. Unfortunately I got deep paint chips on my hood within 2 days of buying my xA before I had a chance to book in to get it done
So I can't put it on until i get all the chips fixed one of these days.
If you guys are bummed about your scions crappy paint, try living with an 03 nissan 350Z with junk paint. mine was the touring model, top of the line in the way of features, and the paint was just like as if a 4 year old painted the car with crayons. the car was only a year old and the paint looked like someone had taken sandpaper to the front half and around the exhaust tips the bumper was burned. it was black, by the way, and that still didnt help. I got rid of the car and didnt buy anything for a whole year. then i got my wife an Xb. she really like it and it growing on me too.
if you have some friends in the auto body business, like i do, they have a paint meter used to check the paint for thickness, like to see if body work has been done. it also works to see just how thick regular paint is. the Z was only about a 5, which is low concidering that dodge has paints as thick a 15. so just thank yourself for not buying something like what i did.
