Default Reusing Crush Washers

How often do you guys reuse the crush washers that you buy from the dealership when doing an oil change? I just did an oil change and left it on for the 2nd time, how often do you guys recommend?

I replace it every time I change my oil.

A crush washer is supposed to be a one time use item and as cheap as they are, why even bother skimping on them?

well, after one use, it looks the exact same as the new ones, so why not reuse it? I took it off the drain plug but it looked brand new, so I put it back on!

They cost what, 10¢?
Come on, don't be a cheap-skate.
Use a new one - that's why they're made to "crush"

Sheesh.

Not about the price of them so much as having to drive out to the dealership to get em....

Guys, I understand that they are cheap, but what i'm asking, is whether or not its worth driving out to the dealership to pick some up when the one I had on looks perfectly fine...

I just would like to know how many times you change your oil without switching the washer, or if there is some sort of official recommendation. Would scion change the washer for the initial 3 oil changes?

Is it OK to leave the crush washer on for more than one oil change?

The official repair manual shows the drain plug gasket as a non-reusable part.

Therefore, Scion would replace it every time the drain plug is removed and reinstalled.

Can you get away with using it more than once? Probably.

You know, you can buy more than one at a time. Go to the dealership and buy a 10-pack of filters and 10 oil plug gaskets. Tape each gasket to the top of a oil filter box and you'll have enough for awhile without driving to a dealership every 5k.

Then you're smarter than all the engineers and road-racers that only use new ones.
Up to you - the time it does leak or fail will have you thinking- "was it really worth 10¢"
Answer- no.

I have like 30 of those puppies. They were just upstairs and I was in the garage. So when I was doing the change, the gasket looked brand new still, so I got lazy and put it back on rather than going upstairs - i'm lazy. I was asking if it would be OK what I did, and I was asking hypothetically how many oil changes one can go without changing it...I wouldn't do more than two changes, but as the manual says 1, i'll do as it says...thanks for the detailed advice!

I changed my oil this weekend and had a good look at the plug gasket.

It was bent in and was most definitely "crushed".

I would never use it again, not in a million years.
