Default Scratch Solution..

Anyone who has gotten light scratches on their car...THERES A WAY TO FIX THEM!

...take a very very very high grit sandpaper...like 3000...and dip it in water...very very very very lightly, rub the scratch with the sandpaper..while constantly dipping it in the water every couple of rubs...

IMPORTANT: DO NOT SAND THROUGH UR CL EAR COAT..THIS IS FOR VERY LIGHT SCRATCHES ONLY!

there will be this white blemish that wil form on your car...then take some old school wax(not spray)....put it over the blemish..let it haze...wipe it off...scratch is gone!!!!

Kishan P.

(btw..i did this last week on a bunch of scratches on my fender(they are very light though), and i will try to get pics up)

Yeah...uhhh....chemical compound is a jillion times better.

sandpaper? God your almost crazy. Thats like saying that instead of getting a facial at a spa you'll just take sandpaper and rub it all over your face....

Nu-finish's Scratch Doctor worked for my friend. He has a BLACK Tibby, so just about every scratch is noticeable.

After that wax settles off you're going to have sanding marks. The wax simply filled in the grit marks, temporarily hiding them.

You did NOT do this correctly. After wetsanding you need to level the paint down with a high speed rotary buffer with an aggressive compound. Then you need to finish it up with either a rotary with a light compound or a dual action polisher with a light compound, then top it with wax. Taking it in steps like that (from most aggressive to least aggressive) is the only way to restore full optical clarity in the clear coat. Your method is incomplete. Also, it is completely overkill. There are times when wetsand is appropriate, but its certainly not for light scratches. ScratchX (when used correctly ) works just fine.

Meguiar's ScratchX
Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze
Meguiar's #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
Meguiar's #84 Compound
Menzerna Final Polish II
Menzerna Intensive Polish
Zaino ZPC
PoorBoy's SSR1, SSR2, SSR2.5
Optimum Polish
Optimum Compound

All of these are polishes/compounds which I have used successfully to remove scratches, swirls, and other defects from clear coat. Now, some of these need to be applied with a polisher, whether it be a rotary or a dual action, but all of these are safer and would have worked much better than wetsanding.

If you can't remove light scratches using these sorts of products you aren't using them correctly. Don't blame the product, blame the technique.

I'd just like to point out to everyone... you'd be surprised at the number of defects that can be removed with the use of the right tools and products, in the hands of an experienced person. Before resorting to drastic measures like this, please ask someone who knows what they're doing to see what can be done. It can save you lots of headaches later on down the road.

If you couldn't get ScratchX to work my guess is you were not working it in long enough.

I suggest reading up on this article, as I can't explain it any better myself.
