Default Thin paint

I just got my indigo ink xA (great car by the way), but i noticed that there's barely enough paint in the wheel wells and under the hood to cover the grey undercoat so the wells and underhood are a funny color aqua blue. anyone else had this problem or tried to complain to the dealer? i'd almost like to just spray under the wheel wells with a black paint to make the gap look smaller.

i did do a search.

I found one topic related to paint so thin it failed to cover surfaces, however it was listed under the xB forum and contained no resolution.

The multiple other topics dealing with thin/cheap paint all centered on chips/scratches/scuffs, etc... and contained advice such as wax it, avoid the freeway, buy a bra, use 3M tape. That advice, in dealing with my question, is not helpful. I also could not find that those posts reference any person actually trying to talk to the dealer about their problem or that the dealer did anything.

So, after sifting through 829 thread titles dealing with the search term "paint," I asked my question. If I missed the post that answered this question, I apologize.

Umm, I've been around here for a little while and I don't recall this being discussed, let alone discussed "hundreds of times".

In answer to the question, I've noted that Toyota was _very_ frugal with the paint. The inside of my gas door has primer showing through the white paint.

It's not like the old days when VW advertised that the paint inside the bug's doors was as nice as the paint on the car. It was, too!

the scion community is ONLY going to grow and grow and the same questions inevitably WILL come up again and again... we're here to help, not belittle the newbies... i can understand being sick of seeing the same questions over and over... but damn, give him some keywords to search on, or post a link to one of the previous posts... or better yet DON'T respond to the post and let someone with a little more patience and a regular sized ego help out...

as far as the original post... congrats on your new car... welcome to the boards... i too tried a search for you and came up empty... anyway, yah, the paint is pretty thin under the hood/wheel wells... looks like a quick rattlecan job/or paint overspray... however, a few people on these boards have painted the wells all black and it does help clean up the overall look... especially if you aren't planning to drop your ride... hopefully one of them will see this and drop some advice/pointers...

good luck...

yeah, i don't know what XBman is talking about. Toyota's paint jobs have started to suck. I have quite a few paint chips on my frontend... Toyota's touch up paint isn't that good either...

For the record- any paint, buy any car company will chip!! - and a double clearcoat will not make a difference...

as for the paint being crappy(coverage wise)- I ve noticed on my xB the metal flake is only on the outside, and the rear hatch and engine bay is a flat grey.

My pops 32K 4runner, and mom's 27K Camry is the same way!!

Its called -cost cutting! I remember with my Focus, ford quit putting felt covering on the inside of the trunk, and sound-deading mat. on the inside of the hood. then they quit painting on the vents the open and close symbols. then they got rid of the fabric sunvisors and made them from the cheapest vinyl!!!
