Default the weirdest thing happened to my brakes.

the weirdest thing happened to me today. I was off to blockbuster to drop off some videos and when i was about to park my car, i hit the brakes (i didnt slam on them i just braked ragularly) and then i feel this grinding thing going on on my brake pedal and i can also hear it. This is the first time it ever happened. when i was on my way home i started to brake a lot to see if would happen again but it didnt. anyone know what caused the grinding? I only got 5400 miles on my tC and i doubt i need a brake change.

if you felt a slight pulse more then likely it was the ABS. If the car hits a bump and you are on the brakes at the time it will go off because of the sensors. I have a bump I hit almost everyday leaving work. Sometimes it sets the ABS off, sometimes it doesn't. It is posibble the wheel hit a slick spot in the ground and the ABS might have gone off also.

With the symptoms you have mentioned it sounds like the ABS especially since you have low milage and it has only happened once. I noticed the ABS systems in the scions are a little more sensative then most of the toyota's my shop works on.

Yeap brake rotors can rust and you will get feedback through the pedal. It's completely normal but rare for this to happen.
