Default WHEN SHOULD I DO MY FIRST OIL CHANGE....xB?

I just bought a Scion xB, like a week ago. Reading the some topics, people say to change at 500 miles (break in period), is this true? Can I use the free oil change to do this? I'm kind of stuck.....pls help.

I got my first one at 500 miles. Second was at 1000, third was at 2,500 and 4th was at 5,000. The next will be at 10,000 miles and I'll get another oil change at 15,000.

Yes, it is true that your first 1,500 miles of a car should be the "break in period" meaning you should get the oil changed atleast twice before 1,500.

The reason for this is because the engine is brand new, and metal shavings could still be in the engine. Trust me, oil changes aren't expensive, if you want your scion to last longer, get changes regularly.

hope that helps

I did mine at 1000 the second one at 4000 then my third at 6000/4months w/ synthetic my next one will be at 9000 or so. They say you can wait till 5000 miles, if you drive hard like I drive my TC then change it every 3000.

The manual says to do the first oil change at 5,000 miles. I'm sure the people who wrote the manual don't know what they're talking about.

even with pure synthetic oil? isn't synthetic designed not to break down as fast as regular conventional motor oil? i live in vegas, and the weather is pretty harsh......every 3000 sounds good. thanks for the input peeps.

Thank you for being the one with logic. No need to change oil every few hundred miles, or put synthetic oil in it. My god, read the damn manual.

Everyone has a different view of how to make their scion last longer. Let's all post again in about 2 years and we'll see who has the scion with the best running engine.

no one should lecture us about how to take care of our cars. <-- this is for everyone

I don't mean to come off as an _______ or anything...

Every 5-7 thousand, just like the instructions say.

I'd wager that the oil that comes in your car when you get it ISN'T the first oil that's gone in there. They tune these things before they drop em in. Break-in is old-school.

Think about all the Toyotas out there with 100's of thousands of miles. Do you really think the only ones still rolling are the people who changed their oil more frequently than recommended and went thru strict break-in procedures? I don't...
